Going international
Unlike the long-term strategy of the previous generation, the 9X designer determined to approach the international market early or conquer international fashion followers before taking systematic steps in the domestic market. The media channel from the "heat" of celebrities is used by them in many fields, from Hollywood icons, artists attending the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, K-pop stars to idols of the world's youth...
Tran Hung (27 years old) is the first Vietnamese designer to become an official member of the British Fashion Council in 2020. Choosing the path of sustainable fashion, he built his reputation by maintaining his show schedule at London Fashion Week (UK) and constantly researching and experimenting to create new environmentally friendly materials such as vegan leather. Designer Diep Yen and the Montsand brand made an impressive appearance at London Fashion Week in September 2024 right after Taylor Swift, Amanda Holden, Karoline Podolak... became customers of the brand.

Young Vietnamese designers are increasingly introducing new designs at major fashion events. Examples include Phan Dang Hoang at Milan Fashion Week (Italy), Phan Huy and Pham Ngoc Anh at Paris Fashion Week (France); Hacchic Couture, Lsoul, Sixdo, and Linh Nga Couture brands at Shanghai Fashion Week (China)…
In addition to officially appearing at international fashion weeks, more and more Vietnamese brands are participating in pop-up stores (short-term retail stores) abroad to bring customers a direct try-on experience. This is a good distribution and marketing channel that complements the e-commerce channel, exploited by designers Tran Khanh Duy, Lam Gia Khang, Vietnamese brands such as CaoStu, An Heritage, Jump Out, Paradise Saigon, Thome, Afterparty, Lider, The Idiot, Aka Mydinh, Dalya studios, Duc Studio, Laminapparel, etc.

Renaked (held on June 10) is the first show of Fancì Club, a brand founded by designer Tran Khanh Duy in 2018. Renaked is considered to be close to the spirit of international catwalks when bringing the audience a different experience from space, context to fashion language through a massive collection of more than 80 designs. Before making a splash in the domestic media, Fancì Club appeared in many major newspapers such as The New York Times, Business Insider, Grazia, Vogue UK, Elle Australia ... After opening a store in Ho Chi Minh City, introducing designs in a pop-up store held in New York (USA) at the end of May, this show is a strategic step in the journey of building a methodical and professional brand of the designer born in 1999.
Following Renaked is the Orbit Runway Show (held on June 14) organized by Rue Miche, bringing together more than 20 domestic fashion and accessory brands such as Stress Mama, Beuter, Rakkiu, Aah Midnight Club, Accox Acx, Afterparty, Dalya, Mare, Latui Atelier, Victim of the Prime, Maverik, Gian Saigon, Kimtr, Subtle Le Nguyen, Forty Three, Back to Astroworld, Jellyfish and Waa. There is no catwalk separating the stage from the audience as usual, models walk between the rows of audience seats, presenting multi-style collections. Each design is a statement of personality, a story about materials, techniques and brand spirit, smoothly connected on the catwalk, reflecting the youthful, diverse and rich identity of Vietnamese fashion.
Meanwhile, DEPA Fashion Show (June 20) marked the debut of the Designer Emerging Partnership Association (DEPA). The five young founding designers, including Quach Dac Thang (La Lune), Nguyen Minh Duc (Duc Studio), Quy Cao (CaoStu), Elena Nguyen (Elena Ngn) and Huyen Bui (T-Redx), presented a sketch of a thorny, different but distinctive fashion portrait through five unique collections. With the theme of transforming the individual based on the roots of original creativity, the dialogue through fabrics, identity and the spirit of daring to do fashion in their own way by the five young people has created a big echo in the Vietnamese fashion community. DEPA aims to build a sustainable foundation for independent designers, operating as an open community to learn together, share resources, connect opportunities and develop sustainably.
"Young designers who want to go far should choose to go together and create their own playground. I hope DEPA will have a fashion show every year. The unity of young people with the same passion and voice will make the Vietnamese fashion industry grow stronger and the world will pay attention," said designer Quy Cao. (continued )
