The Daily Mail reported that the Titan tourist submersible operated by OceanGate Expeditions lost contact at around 4am on June 18 (local time), about 1 hour and 45 minutes after it dived. As of June 20, the Titan had only enough oxygen left for 50 hours.

According to US officials, among the five people on board the Titan submersible at the time of the accident were British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, famous French diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet and OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush.

There are concerns that the submarine is stuck too deep under the sea, making search and rescue work difficult.

Daily Mail reported that Titan sent its last "ping" signal at a depth of more than 3,800 m, just above its destination, the Titanic wreck, about 595 km from Newfoundland - Canada and within US territorial waters.

According to David Concannon, technical advisor to OceanGate Expeditions, US and Canadian officials are looking to deploy remotely controlled diving equipment that can reach depths of more than 6,000 meters as soon as possible.

Currently, both the US and Canada have deployed C-130 and P-8 aircraft to support the search in the suspected sea areas where the Titan submarine crashed, about 1,450 km east of Cape Cod peninsula and about 595 km southeast of Newfoundland.

Commercial vessels assisting in the search have access to sonar buoys that can pick up signals at depths of nearly 4,000 metres.

Rear Admiral John W. Mauger, US Coast Guard, admitted that Titan is likely trapped in the wreckage of the Titanic, making search and rescue complicated.
