The funeral was held in Sao Cosme, about a half-hour drive from his hometown of Porto in northern Portugal.

This is also the place where two weeks ago, Diogo Jota married his childhood sweetheart Rute Cardoso, surrounded by family and friends.

Local priest Jose Manuel Macedo said a requiem mass will take place at the Sao Cosme Chapel before a funeral mass on Saturday morning (July 5), at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar Catholic church.

"The bodies of the Jota brothers will be taken to the chapel of the resurrection for a requiem mass. The funeral will then take place at 10am on July 5," he told CNN Portugal.

We stand ready to pray with everyone and share the pain and hope of Christians."

Yesterday afternoon, a hearse arrived at the funeral home in the town of Puebla de Sanabria (Spain), where the bodies of Diogo Jota and Andre were taken after the accident.

The brothers had been traveling to the town of Santander to catch a ferry to England, as Diogo Jota had been advised not to fly after recent lung surgery.
