The funeral of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva was held on the morning of July 5 at the Igreja Matríz de Condumar church in eastern Porto.
Many famous players from Liverpool and the Portuguese national team participated in the ceremony such as: Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Neves... but many fans still questioned the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, the player who is holding the captain's armband of the Portuguese national team.
Many people even criticized CR7. However, according to a recent revelation from The Mirror (UK), Ronaldo decided not to attend the funeral for personal reasons and out of respect for the deceased's family.
Ronaldo believed that if he appeared in a small town like Condumar, it would attract media and fan attention, which would ruin the "silent and solemn atmosphere" of the memorial service. So he decided not to attend, in order to ensure complete privacy for Jota's family.
Although he did not personally attend the ceremony, Ronaldo expressed his feelings through an Instagram post: "It's absurd... We just joined the Portuguese national team together and he just got married. I send my condolences and strength to his family, wife and children to overcome this difficult time. I know he will always be with them... Rest in peace Diogo and Andre. We will always miss you."
Diogo Jota (28 years old) unfortunately passed away in a traffic accident in Zamora (Spain). The incident happened at 0:30 (local time) on July 3 on the A52 highway. At the time of the incident, the player's younger brother, Andre, who is also a professional footballer, was in the car.
