Lam Dong province converges three ecological regions, including plateau, midland and coastal areas, creating a large development space. The range of forests and seas, beautiful natural landscapes, and the cultural colors of ethnic groups... have created diverse and unique tourism resources.
Tourism is identified as one of the "pillars" of socio -economic development of Lam Dong on the new journey.
An exciting journey of connection
When the transport infrastructure is upgraded and expanded, it will reduce the travel time of tourists on the journey from the blue sea of Phan Thiet to the land of flowers of Da Lat, through Ta Dung Lake, the UNESCO global geopark of Dak Nong to explore the wild nature. “With the new development space of Lam Dong province, it is difficult for any place in Vietnam to converge the ecosystem and tourism development potential like this place: Plateau, mountains, forests, plains, islands; caves, waterfalls, agricultural specialties, ethnic cultures and cultural heritages…”, Mr. Duong Quoc Anh, Director of the Lam Dong Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center shared.
In the southeast of Lam Dong province is the sea area, with a coastline of more than 190 km, forming beautiful beaches, rich island ecosystems, and Cham culture with the famous Kate festival. The tourist destinations here have become favorite destinations for tourists, such as Mui Ne, Ke Ga, Bau Trang, Ta Cu and Phu Quy pearl island, Cu Lao Cau... These are tourism resources with many advantages to create types of experiential tourism, resorts, and sea sports.
In the west of Lam Dong province is the land associated with the Mnong plateau, where there is the UNESCO Dak Nong global geopark, along with the majestic waterfalls of Dray Sap, Dak G'Lun, Lieng Nung, Luu Ly; Ea Sno lake, Nam Nung and Ta Dung ecological areas, and many intangible cultural heritages... that can be exploited to develop discovery tourism, ecotourism, geological tourism and community tourism.
In the highlands, Da Lat is known as the land of thousands of flowers, the land of thousands of pine trees, the land of dreams and the land of sublimation, where tourists can find beautiful dreams. Dr. Pham S, former Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, said that visitors to Da Lat will experience and explore Tuyen Lam Lake National Tourist Area, Nguyen Dynasty Woodblock Heritage, gong culture, Langbiang World Biosphere Reserve; relax by Xuan Huong Lake, poetic Tuyen Lam; explore the forest ecosystem; visit Datanla and Prenn waterfalls and enjoy music in many spaces in the mountain town.
In 2024, Da Lat will welcome more than 10 million visitors for sightseeing and relaxation; this is an important milestone in the journey of developing tourism in the new Lam Dong province. According to Dr. Pham S, from the potential and strengths of climate, natural landscape, tourism human resources, this highland has been forming outstanding tourism products such as eco-tourism, resort tourism, adventure tourism, agricultural tourism, cultural exploration...
The journey connecting forests-seas, plateaus-plains is opening up a new space for tourism development in the province with the largest natural area in Vietnam. Coming to Lam Dong today, visitors can immerse themselves in the three-layer ecological "symphony" of plateaus-midlands-coasts; which is a resource to be able to fully develop all types of tourism terrains that are suitable for the trend, high quality and sustainable, such as resort and ecological tourism; experiential tourism, cultural-historical heritage, festivals-events; sports and adventure tourism; agricultural tourism and community tourism...
New development vision
At the forum connecting "Culture, tourism and trade" of Lam Dong province in 2025, Central Party Committee member, Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam said: "In the new development stage, Lam Dong province identifies three main pillars: culture, tourism and trade, which will not only be the spearhead economic sector, but also a creative space to converge intelligence, identity, technology and social resources, creating a breakthrough for the province".
First of all, to promote tourism in particular and the development of local socio-economy, it is necessary to synchronously upgrade the intra-provincial transport infrastructure system and inter-regional transport connections. In particular, it is necessary to invest in the expressway system, upgrade air and sea routes and restore the Thap Cham-Da Lat railway line to create diverse connections with lands and destinations.
Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association Tran Ngoc Chinh shared that the merger of provinces is not simply a reorganization of administrative boundaries, but a strategic step to optimize resources and exploit the economic potential of regions, in which connecting traffic is a very important condition to promote the development of fields. Many experts believe that in order for tourism to become a spearhead economic sector, one of the pillars of local socio-economic development, Lam Dong province needs to overcome challenges in management; build a strategic tourism development plan, promote the potential and strengths of each region in the overall picture.
The locality needs to promote smart tourism, shifting from landscape tourism to cultural-digital experience tourism; building a sustainable tourism ecosystem, focusing on training high-quality tourism human resources; strengthening promotion, advertising, and investment attraction activities... All need to be implemented synchronously and connected coherently to develop green, sustainable, and in-depth tourism, gradually positioning Lam Dong tourism on the regional and international tourism map.
Vice President of Lam Dong-Da Lat Tourism Association Cao The Anh said that in order to maximize its potential and strengths, Lam Dong province needs to establish a “new development vision”, with the position of a new tourism growth pole of the South Central region at the national level. This includes focusing on developing tourism product groups that are suitable for new market trends, such as health care tourism, healing tourism, experiential tourism and green tourism. At the same time, the locality needs to reposition the value chain of heritage and ecological tourism; agricultural and community tourism; event tourism and promote the development of Net Zero tourism associated with green transformation...
