- On the morning of July 4, in Hanoi , Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long chaired the conference to review 5 years of implementing the Traditional Medicine Development Program (TMDP), combining TMDP with modern medicine. The conference was connected online to the People's Committees of provinces and cities.
Attending the conference were leaders of central ministries and branches, representatives of People's Committees of provinces and cities, along with many experts, businesses, and traditional medicine establishments across the country.
Attending the conference at Lang Son bridge point were comrade Duong Xuan Huyen, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of departments, branches and units under the Department of Health .
After 5 years of implementing Decision No. 1893/QD-TTg dated December 25, 2019 of the Prime Minister on the development of traditional medicine, with the efforts of all levels and sectors, traditional medicine work has achieved many important results : The system of basic traditional medicine facilities has been invested and upgraded; the traditional medicine network at the grassroots level has been increasingly consolidated and developed; the quality of medicinal herbs and medicinal ingredients is guaranteed, traditional medicine is diverse and highly effective; medical examination and treatment services in the field of traditional medicine are increasingly diverse and of high quality. Currently, there are 5 central-level traditional medicine hospitals nationwide; 61 provincial-level traditional medicine hospitals. The rate of communes implementing traditional medicine examination and treatment reached more than 83%, an increase of 5.4% compared to 2019. Many large medicinal herb growing areas were formed with 17 enterprises investing in cultivating 106 types of medicinal herbs on an area of 21,800 hectares .
In Lang Son province, in recent years, medical examination and treatment activities using traditional medicine have been consolidated and developed. A number of indigenous traditional medicine prescriptions have been collected, restored and applied in practice. The Department of Health has been issuing certificates of people with traditional medicine prescriptions and traditional treatment methods to traditional healers and midwives according to local regulations. Many medical facilities have models of traditional medicine gardens and medicinal plant gardens and maintain classes to update knowledge about traditional medicine plants, experience in using medicinal plants from clinical practice and sharing from traditional healers and midwives. In particular, Lang Son is one of the localities with a large medicinal plant growing area with 30,000 hectares of star anise.
At the conference, delegates presented papers on the current situation and solutions for developing traditional medicine such as: Developing traditional medicine combined with Combining traditional medicine with modern medicine in the treatment and prevention of non-communicable diseases; applying advanced techniques in medical examination and treatment and providing health tourism services using non- traditional medicine methods; training high-quality human resources combining traditional medicine and modern medicine...
Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long acknowledged the achievements in the development of traditional medicine in recent times. He requested the Ministry of Health and relevant ministries and branches to continue to improve the policy mechanism related to traditional medicine; train and develop high-quality human resources; increase investment in the field of traditional medicine; research, preserve and promote the value of traditional medicine associated with modern science and technology; strengthen information and communication on traditional medicine, protect medicinal resources in each locality associated with traditional knowledge; strengthen the socialization of traditional medicine; promote the development of medicinal herbs, focusing on medicinal plants with economic value, linking the development of medicinal herbs with economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, especially in mountainous areas and ethnic minorities; proactively integrate and improve the effectiveness of international cooperation, strengthen the development and promotion of traditional medicine products, meeting the needs of people's health care in the new situation.
