Vietnamese students achieve excellent results at Russia's largest academic and professional competition

Student Huynh Tan Cuong, majoring in Mechatronics and Robotics, ITMO National Research University, has won a Bronze medal in the Robotics category of the All-Russian Student Olympiad 'I am an Expert 2025'.

The All-Russian Student Olympiad is one of the largest academic and professional competitions for students across Russia, aimed at assessing knowledge, skills and finding talents in various fields.

Held annually since 2017, the competition is supported by the Russian Ministry of Science and HigherEducation and is accompanied by major corporations in Russia such as Sberbank, Gazprom, Yandex..., leading universities and industry experts.

This year, the competition attracted more than 185,000 students from all over Russia, competing in 71 categories from different fields: science and technology, agriculture , pedagogy, medicine...

Candidates need to solve problems created by representatives of leading Russian universities and more than 700 corporations and businesses, thereby providing practical solutions.

With the desire to participate in the test and not focus on the results, student Huynh Tan Cuong registered to participate after learning about the competition through the faculty's information channel.

“During the competition, I had to find solutions to practical and difficult problems in a limited time, requiring prior preparation of professional knowledge and quick algorithm implementation.

But thanks to my ability to learn quickly and also being very lucky to receive guidance and help from teachers in the faculty lab, I was equipped with many necessary skills," Cuong shared.

This year, for the first time in the history of the competition, the final round of the “Robotics” category was held at the Sberbank technology center.

The outstanding students who have made it to the Finals will need to present their solutions to a jury of experts from Sber, ITMO, Navio, Robowizard and StarLine, including Albert Efimov - Vice President and Head of the Research and Innovation Department at Sberbank's Technology Division.

As the only international student to pass the Preliminary round, Semi-final round with outstanding results and to be present in the Final round, Huynh Tan Cuong excellently won the Bronze medal with 175 points, 184 points ahead of the Silver medal and 185 points ahead of the Gold medal.

At the end of the competition, Huynh Tan Cuong could not hide his emotions: "I feel very happy and proud because I have proven my ability and the ability of Vietnamese students in Russia. I hope this will contribute to promoting the study and competition movement of Vietnamese students in Russia, affirming Vietnamese intelligence in the international arena."

As a member of the Organizing Committee and also Cuong's mentor in the competition, Mr. Antipov Vladislav Alekseevich commented: “I started to contact Cuong from the 'Methods and Applications of Geometric Control' laboratory of ITMO University. At that time, Cuong had little experience in computer vision and SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). But after only one year, Cuong became the Bronze medal winner at the competition due to his perseverance, persistence, and intelligence".

Huynh Tan Cuong is a typical example of the young generation of Vietnamese in Russia in terms of the spirit of constantly striving to study and research, contributing to affirming the position of Vietnamese students in the international arena.

Sharing his future plans, Cuong said: "I plan to continue studying for a master's degree in Robotics. After that, I will return to Vietnam with the desire to contribute my small part to the development of the country."
