Choose a major according to the 3x3 formula
On the morning of July 8,Education and Times Newspaper organized the first online exchange in the 2025 admissions consulting program series with the topic "Where to study to get a good job? - How to choose a school and major wisely".
This activity aims to accompany students and parents in the orientation phase of choosing a major that suits their abilities, while also updating changes in training trends and recruitment needs after graduation.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Director of the Center for Transport Research, Vietnam-Germany University, students currently have many career options, so they will depend on information from relatives, the media, etc. to consider choosing a major and choosing a school. He said that this is a common mentality that is difficult to avoid.
For example, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Anh Tuan stated that a student who is good at natural sciences but chooses humanities or economics will not be able to develop his/her abilities. Therefore, students must visualize what they will do and where they will be in the next 5 years. Young people must practice maturity, decide who they will be and where they will be in the next 5 years to choose a career, a school, and a program to realize their future.

Associate ProfessorDr. Vu Anh Tuan has proposed the "3x3" formula for students to choose the right one for themselves, which means listing 3 careers to pursue in the next 5 years. For each career, students list 3 majors they can study and work in later.
Each major has 3 equivalent universities. In total, there will be 9 easy-to-do options. Based on each student's learning ability and interests, choose 1 of the 9. Students may have 2-3 options, but the process of monitoring the enrollment situation to choose a suitable school and career.
"This method takes advantage of friends' advice and relies on one's own internal strength and ability to make a choice. Besides, choosing a major and choosing a school also requires appropriate financial capacity," Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Anh Tuan said.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Quynh, Deputy Director of the Admissions Consulting Center, Van Hien University, many students still do not know who they will become in the future. Therefore, they are confused in choosing a major, which is also choosing a career for their own future.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Quynh, candidates need to clearly know who they are and who they will become in the future. Ms. Quynh emphasized that although changing majors is possible, this often leads to wasting time, money and even causing students to "miss the beat" compared to their peers. Therefore, choosing a future career is extremely important.
MSc. Quynh also gave advice to parents: “In my opinion, the family should only be a companion, not a decision maker for the candidate.” This shows that the role of the family is to guide and support, instead of imposing choices on the children.
Which industry opens up job opportunities?
