Galaxy Unpacked 2025, Samsung's next big event of the year, will take place at 9pm on July 9 (Vietnam time). Here, the Korean company is expected to launch the new version of Galaxy Z, alongside the next generation of the Galaxy Watch.
Samsung was one of the first companies to launch a foldable smartphone. Recently, some competitors such as Motorola, Google, Oppo or Xiaomi have attracted attention by addressing many of the disadvantages of the Galaxy Z Fold such as price, size, battery and camera.
Faced with pressure from competitors, analysts predict that the next Galaxy Z will have many changes in design and hardware, helping to strengthen Samsung's position and maintain its competitiveness. In addition, AI and the healthcare ecosystem are also factors worth waiting for at tonight's event.
What's new in Galaxy Z Fold7?
Samsung's video teases a book-shaped foldable device with a camera similar to the Galaxy S Ultra. The message "Meet the Next Chapter of Ultra" also suggests that the next Galaxy Z will have a major hardware upgrade, at least equivalent to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Based on rumors from 91mobiles , the Galaxy Z Fold7 Ultra will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 200 MP rear camera similar to the Galaxy S25 Edge. Meanwhile, the standard Z Fold7 version has a thin and light design.
Leaker Evan Blass also shared a set of photos of the Galaxy Z Fold7 in 3 colors: blue, silver and black. Based on the images, the Z Fold7 has a slim size, a protruding camera cluster similar to the S25 Edge.

Of course, everything is just a rumor. It is not yet confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Fold7 Ultra are two separate devices, or that Samsung will combine to launch a version of the Z Fold7.
In an interview with CNET , a Samsung representative emphasized that the thinness and lightness of the Galaxy Z Fold7 promises to bring an experience "similar to a traditional smartphone".
“More than ever, these devices will look and feel like traditional smartphones. Users will get the feel of a regular bar phone, but they will also get the benefits of a foldable phone,” said Drew Blackard, vice president of mobile product management at Samsung.
Making foldable smartphones "normal"
From the first Galaxy Fold to the Z Fold6, the product's thickness has been reduced by about 29% and its weight has been reduced by 37g. According to Samsung, that number can be repeated when upgrading from the Galaxy Z Fold6 to the Z Fold7.
Based on the above parameters, the Galaxy Z Fold7 can be about 8.64 mm thin when folded, weighing about 200 g.
“When Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge, many wondered what the point of a thin phone was if it still had a case attached. Now that Samsung has delivered a foldable smartphone that feels ‘as normal as possible,’ things are starting to become clearer,” CNET writer Abrar Al-Heeti emphasized.
According to analysts, creating a feeling similar to a regular smartphone can help Samsung attract a new group of customers who are afraid to step out of their comfort zone while still preferring bar-shaped smartphones.
“The average user has to make a lot of trade-offs when changing a device they rely on so much. No one wants that to happen,” said IDC analyst Ryan Reith.

Samsung representatives said the changes on the Z Fold7 came from user feedback. Specifically, 33% of Z Fold users wanted improved mobility, while 28% demanded a camera with flagship quality.
Despite the Galaxy Z's success, foldable smartphones remain a niche market. According to a survey from CNET , about 50% of smartphone users are not interested in foldable phones.
If not Samsung, the only name that could make a splash in the market is Apple. Based on rumors, the company could launch a foldable iPhone as early as 2026.
“Apple’s potential entry into the market by late 2026 could help make the foldable smartphone segment more diverse and accessible,” said analyst Thomas Husson from research firm Forrester .
Will there be a cheap Galaxy Z Flip?
In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold7, Samsung is likely to launch the Galaxy Z Flip7 in two versions. According to CNET , one model is the standard Z Flip7 (upgraded from the Z Flip6), while the other version is cheaper, similar to the Galaxy S FE line.
On Weibo , a post by leaker Setsuna Digital suggests that the Z Flip7 will have a larger external display than the previous generation (4.1 inches), almost the same size as the 4-inch Motorola Razr Ultra. Evan Blass also shared photos of some colors of the Z Flip7 including blue, red and black.
In addition to the design, Samsung may upgrade the hardware for the Z Flip7. According to CNET , the product may be equipped with Exynos 2500, a processor chip that Samsung recently launched.

With the Z Flip7 FE, Blass's images show a product appearance similar to the Z Flip6 with a 3.4-inch external display. With an affordable price, the product configuration may be lower than the standard Z Flip7.
The big hurdle to switching to foldable smartphones remains price. Last year, the Galaxy Z Fold6 cost $1,900 , while the Z Flip6 was $1,100 . If it actually launches, the Z Flip7 FE could offer more options for users. According to analyst Ryan Reith, price will be a factor that gives Samsung an advantage.
“Right now, the best way to get attention is to focus on price, even if it means sacrificing a bit on camera specs,” said an analyst from IDC .
New generation smartwatch
Wearables are also a product worth waiting for tonight. Based on rumors, Samsung may launch the Galaxy Watch8, an upgrade to last year's Watch7.
In an interview with CNET , Dr. Hon Pak, head of Samsung's digital health division, shared his plans for wearables. The company is aiming for personalized coaching experiences, aging tracking, and blood analysis technology. These features can help users prevent certain chronic diseases.

However, it is not clear whether all of the above features will appear on the Galaxy Watch8. In addition to the standard version, Samsung may launch the Galaxy Watch8 Classic and new colors for the Watch Ultra.
Rumors from SammyGuru suggest the Galaxy Watch8 will have a larger battery. A series of renders from Blass show the Watch8 with a slightly square design, while the Watch8 Classic has a round shape with a rotating bezel.
