Ban Co Ward was established on the basis of merging wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 of the old District 3 with an area of 1 km2 and a population of more than 67,600 people.
The return of the famous Pho Le
During the two resistance wars, the Ban Co area was chosen as the headquarters of a number of revolutionary agencies. The people and armed forces of Ban Co made an important contribution to the victory of the Southern revolution and the unification of the country. During the resistance war, Ban Co hamlet was a poor residential area with houses close together in 52 alleys across an area of about 15 hectares like a chessboard.

After the merger, Ban Co ward has famous and attractive restaurants that attract diners from near and far, notably Pho Le, Bun Bo Moi Co Nhu, Bo La Lot Co Lieng...
Talking to Thanh Nien , Mr. Hung, representative of Pho Le restaurant, said that after the merger, the restaurant was located in Ban Co ward. Therefore, the restaurant address printed on the staff uniforms was reprinted from Ward 3 to Ban Co ward. Pho Le at the Vo Van Tan street branch reopened on June 16 after nearly 5 years of closure since the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Knowing that the wards would merge from July 1, when we made the sign to reopen, we no longer wrote Ward 3 as before. The branch on Vo Van Tan Street has just been renovated so everything is still new, the space is cleaner and more airy to serve customers," Mr. Hung said.

Pho Le opened in 1970, more than half a century ago. The restaurant's menu includes main dishes such as rare beef, tendons, brisket, beef balls, beef shank... From the past to the present, Pho Le has attracted many people because of its rich, Southern flavor. According to reviews, Pho Le is delicious because the broth has a sweet and creamy taste, and the meat is soft and sweet. In addition, the restaurant prepares many side dishes such as vegetables, bean sprouts... so it attracts many diners. The owner of Pho Le is Mr. Luu Toan Tai, originally from Guangdong, his wife's name is Le, she is a Vietnamese of royal Cambodian origin.
According to Mr. Hung, the secret lies in the pho broth, which is prepared according to a special recipe and passed down through many generations in the family. The harmony of the ingredients also makes a bowl of Pho Le special. Pho Le has another branch on Nguyen Trai Street.
Restaurant honored by Michelin Guide
Pho Le has been honored by Michelin Guide in the Bib Gourmand category (good restaurant, affordable price) for 3 consecutive years. In addition to Pho Le, Ban Co ward also has the famous Co Nhu beef noodle shop in the Michelin recommended restaurant category.
Ms. Ly Thi Kim Nhu (68 years old) said that after the merger, the beef noodle shop belonged to Ban Co ward. However, she hasn't had time to change the ward name on the shop's signboard.

The restaurant is located in a deep alley, number 274 Vo Van Tan street. However, just go to number 38 alley 287 Nguyen Dinh Chieu street and there will be a sign to let diners know.
According to Mrs. Nhu, she opened this beef noodle shop in 1995, using the recipe passed down by her sister-in-law. At that time, each bowl of beef noodle soup she sold cost about 3,000 - 4,000 VND and it was just a small sidewalk noodle shop. Later, she moved the shop to her house, deeper into the alley.
Many years ago, the owner "retired" and passed the restaurant on to her daughter and son-in-law. The owner happily watches her children do the business and helps them with the "outside" tasks. "When I was selling, the restaurant was crowded. The secret was in the broth. Later, when I passed it on to my children, they came up with the idea of adding fat and floating fat to the beef noodle soup. Introduced by a famous beauty queen, the restaurant became more known for its floating fat beef noodle soup and has been crowded ever since," Ms. Nhu recounted.
