On July 14, Hung Vuong General Hospital, Phu Tho province, announced that the hospital had successfully treated a patient with a grade IV kidney rupture due to a serious traffic accident, using a hemostatic embolization technique.
According to Dr. Tran Van Kien, Deputy Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Hung Vuong General Hospital, on the night of July 13, the hospital admitted a 59-year-old male patient with multiple injuries.
Through clinical and paraclinical examination, the patient's abdominal CT scan results showed that the patient had a grade IV right kidney rupture, active bleeding, and perirenal hematoma. In addition, the patient also had a traumatic brain injury, skull and facial bone fractures. After interdisciplinary consultation, the patient's prognosis was very poor.
That same night, the hospital performed an emergency embolization intervention. Thanks to timely treatment, the doctors were able to control the bleeding, preserve maximum renal parenchyma and save the patient's life. Currently, the patient is out of danger and is continuing to be monitored in the Emergency Resuscitation Department.
Previously, Hung Vuong General Hospital has successfully performed many times the embolization technique to save lives in cases of closed abdominal trauma and complex multiple organ ruptures such as liver, kidney, stomach, duodenum, etc. The ability to apply advanced techniques at provincial hospitals contributes to reducing the rate of referrals and reducing pressure on upper-level medical facilities./.
