BAC NINH - For people in the lychee growing region, lychee is not only a delicious fruit but also a precious "treasure", associated with the love of the land and the efforts of many generations. It is this sentiment that has urged many gardeners to constantly invest, improve cultivation techniques, and pay attention to each stage of care to improve product quality. Thanks to that, lychee is always welcomed by the market, selling at a much higher price than the general level. Each season, many households earn profits of up to billions of dong, the sweet fruit of diligence and dedication.
Quality Matters
These days, lychees in Phuong Son ward, Bac Ninh province are ripening. In the garden of Mr. Le Van Kien, Dong Dao residential group, clusters of bright red, plump lychees are crowded together on the lush green foliage, making anyone who passes by admire. The 5-hectare garden was built by Mr. Kien's family since 1995, becoming the main source of income for nearly three decades. Faced with increasing market demand, in 2020, his family decided to change their farming methods, boldly applying the production process according to GlobalGAP standards under the strict guidance of professional agencies. Thanks to strict compliance with regulations in each stage of care, his family's lychee products are always of high quality, chosen by many businesses to purchase and export to demanding markets such as Japan and Europe.

This year's lychee crop is estimated to yield about 80 tons of fruit. Up to now, half of the output has been consumed right in the garden, selling at an average price of 25,000 VND/kg for beautiful lychees. For fruits that do not meet the standard in appearance such as uneven skin color, his family sells them to businesses to process into frozen lychees, a way to maximize the value of the product. Sharing about the production journey according to GlobalGAP, Mr. Kien said: "Although it is much more difficult, having to strictly follow the process, keeping a daily care diary, in return is stable output, and having all products guaranteed. This year, my family expects to earn more than one billion VND."
Not only is Mr. Ly Van Tri's family in Chay village, Luc Ngan commune a gardener who perseveres in clean agricultural production, he is also a familiar stop for many tourists every lychee ripening season. With an area of 2 hectares, for many years, his family has persistently applied the cultivation process according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, producing beautiful, high-quality fruit with stable productivity. This year, the harsh weather with prolonged droughts made Mr. Tri worried that he would lose the entire crop, especially when the entire garden area is located on high hills.
However, not giving up on the difficulties, he proactively increased care, invested in a reasonable irrigation system, and combined it with proper fertilization techniques to ensure good tree growth. Thanks to that, after a period of severe drought, the lychee garden recovered quickly, with a high fruit set rate. It is expected that this year's crop, his family will harvest about 30 tons of fruit, with the selling price always maintained at 15-25 thousand VND/kg. Mr. Tri's lychee garden has also been chosen by content creators as a backdrop for live streaming to introduce and sell products on digital platforms. Thanks to the beautiful and high-quality images of the lychee garden, consumption has continuously increased, helping the product reach consumers nationwide quickly.

A representative of Mova Plus Joint Stock Company in the Czech Republic informed that since the beginning of the season, the company has exported about 200 tons of lychee to the European market. The products are mainly distributed through large supermarket chains and are constantly "out of stock", selling out as soon as they arrive. The success in increasing the value of Bac Giang lychee today is the result of a synchronous process in directing and organizing production. In particular, the strict application of safe production processes, ensuring food hygiene and meeting market standards is a key factor. In addition to the drastic participation of local authorities and specialized agencies, farmers have also changed their production mindset, steadfast in the direction of considering agricultural product quality as the core factor for sustainable development.
Mr. Phan Van Net, Director of the Phi Dien Agricultural Production, Trade and Service Cooperative (Luc Ngan Commune) said: “Currently, the cooperative has 15 members producing lychees on an area of 20 hectares according to the GlobalGAP process. Initially, many members were hesitant and afraid to change traditional farming methods. However, thanks to specific propaganda and guidance, members have actively converted and applied advanced care techniques.” Thanks to changes in thinking and working methods, the cooperative’s lychee garden produces high-quality products, significantly increasing their value. “Our products are currently always the priority choice of purchasing units thanks to their stable quality, reputable brand, and therefore the selling price is higher than the general level,” Mr. Net shared.
In the context of an increasingly demanding market, high-quality agricultural products are no longer an option but have become a mandatory requirement. Responding to that inevitable trend, focusing on improving the quality of lychees is the right direction, an opportunity to expand market share and enhance product competitiveness.
