Not counting the four specialized schools affiliated with universities, Hanoi had four specialized schools under the Departmentof Education and Training (DET), including: Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, and Son Tay High School for the Gifted.

Similarly, Lam Dong has added Tran Hung Dao High School for the Gifted (formerly Binh Thuan) and Nguyen Chi Thanh High School for the Gifted (formerly Dak Nong), in addition to the two schools in the old area, Thang Long High School for the Gifted and Bao Loc High School for the Gifted.
Nine other provinces and have three specialized schools after the merger: Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Can Tho, Gia Lai, Dong Nai, An Giang, Dong Thap and Vinh Long.
Notably, the new Khanh Hoa province (merged from Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan) has two specialized schools with the same name Le Quy Don.
Le Quy Don is also the famous person whose name is given to 8 specialized schools across the country.

From July 1, the country has 34 provinces and cities and 73 specialized high schools under the Department of Education and Training. The number of specialized schools remains the same as before the merger.
Sharing with Dan Tri reporters, leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri and Phu Tho provinces said that there are no plans or policies related to merging specialized schools.
Another leader of the Department of Education and Training stated: "Currently, there is no document that does not allow a province to have more than one specialized school. Keeping 2-3 specialized schools in a province after the merger is appropriate because each school is located in a different area, convenient for students' learning.
The population in each province after the merger has increased significantly, which is also the reason why the locality needs to have more than one specialized school so as not to miss out on talent."
Currently, only Bac Ninh province (new) has changed the names of 2 specialized schools. active, Bac Ninh Specialized High School changed its name to Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 1, and Bac Giang Specialized High School changed its name to Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 2.
