Many famous opera artists perform in the program "The Light of Melody"

The Light of Melody concert in Hanoi brings together famous international and Vietnamese opera artists, bringing top-notch works.

On the evening of July 10, the special concert "The Light of Melody" took place at the Hoan Kiem Theater, Hanoi, with the participation of many excellent voices on the world opera stage.

The event was organized by the Department of Political Work, Ministry of Public Security , Ho Guom Theater, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the inauguration of Ho Guom Theater (July 9, 2023 - July 9, 2025), towards the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security Traditional Day, 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection.

The program brings together excellent voices on the world opera stage such as: Marcello Alvarez, Kathryn Lewek, Joseph Calleja, along with Vietnamese artists: People's Artist Bui Cong Duy, Conductor Tran Nhat Minh, Hanoi Symphony Orchestra, Phuong Nam Choir and Green Wind Choir.

In this program, the public can enjoy the pinnacle musical works of world-famous composers such as Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, Giordano... vividly recreated as stories about the art of opera.

The program is like a miniature picture of the history of world opera. There, the music leads the audience through many emotions, from the romantic, intense Italian style to the vibrant and charming colors of Spanish music or the majestic, magnificent but also delicate and romantic Russian music... bringing the audience special emotions through the melodies of awakening.

Born in Córdoba, Argentina, Marcelo Álvarez is one of the most outstanding tenors in the world of opera, acclaimed by audiences at most of the most prestigious opera houses around the world. Marcelo Álvarez's exceptional talent was soon discovered by the legendary singer Giuseppe Di Stefano. Álvarez soon traveled to Europe and debuted at La Fenice Theater (Venice) in the role of "La Sonnambula."

Marcelo Álvarez initially made his mark with works in the Belcanto style and French opera, before gradually moving into powerful roles in works by Verismo and Verdi.

A brilliant and successful career has brought Marcelo Álvarez to most of the major stages and leading music festivals in the world such as: Royal Opera House Covent Garden (London), Metropolitan Opera House (New York), Paris Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper (Munich), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Teatro Real (Madrid).

American soprano Kathryn Lewek is renowned for her ability to connect with audiences. With her captivating stage presence and clear, powerful voice, Kathryn Lewek has appeared in concerts at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses and music festivals, from the Metropolitan Opera (New York) to the Salzburg Festival (Austria).

Lewek is acclaimed for her lyrical-color-led roles, especially Mozart's Queen of the Night, a role that has earned her a record number of performances. Kathryn Lewek holds a BA and MA in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.

In 2013, she was honored with the Audience Favorite Award and another high prize at the prestigious Operalia competition. Her recording career was marked with her debut opera album “Gisei (Orff) & Die Dorfschule (Weingartner) - CPO” released by the CPO record label.

She also made her mark in the art song field with albums such as “Kathryn Lewek Sings Cary Ratcliff” and “Quicksilver,” released by Albany Records. Artist Joseph Calleja is considered one of the most outstanding and sought-after lyric tenors today.

With a diverse album and regular appearances at prestigious opera houses and concert stages. Joseph Calleja was named Malta's first Cultural Ambassador (2012), is the face of Air Malta, and in 2013 he founded the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation to support children and families in need.

A representative of Ho Guom Theater shared that the program is not only a deep gratitude for the tireless efforts of the artists and creative team, but also a spiritual gift to the audience - those who have been contributing to spreading the love of art.

The program is a special milestone that closes two years of formation and development, and opens a new journey full of expectations, where art continues to flourish, spread and touch the hearts of the public.

Hoan Kiem Theater has been affirming its position as a prestigious cultural and artistic center, a place to honor Vietnamese cultural and artistic values, and at the same time a place to converge, crystallize and spread the quintessence of world art.
