Pre-match review
PSG showed their superior class when they crushed Lionel Messi's Inter Miami 4-0 in the round of 16 of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which took place in Atlanta last weekend. The resounding victory not only helped coach Luis Enrique's team secure a ticket to the quarterfinals, but also affirmed their position as the top candidate for the championship this year.
Young star Joao Neves scored twice in the first half, while Tomas Aviles' own goal and Achraf Hakimi's decisive goal completely extinguished the MLS representative's hopes in the second half. Under constant pressure and a one-sided game imposed by PSG, Inter Miami had almost no chance to fight back.
After a historic treble in the 2024/25 season, the French capital team has maintained a near-perfect form at the FIFA Club World Cup with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss. They are also leading the tournament in average possession (72%), successful passes (2,888), and have conceded the fewest goals (just 1 goal).
However, coach Luis Enrique is still cautious: "The important thing now is to recover physically and prepare carefully. We need to be in the best condition for the confrontation with Bayern, an opponent that PSG has always had many difficulties with in the past."
On the other side of the front line, Bayern Munich is also gradually asserting its comeback. After losing 0-1 to Benfica and finishing second in Group C, the "Gray Tigers" defeated Flamengo with a score of 4-2 in an emotional match at Miami Gardens.
Captain Harry Kane, who has scored 41 goals this season, shone brightly with a double, along with an own goal from Erick Pulgar and a beautiful long-range shot from Leon Goretzka to help Bayern end the Brazilian representative's 11-match unbeaten streak, thereby booking a ticket to the quarter-finals.
With the goal of conquering the FIFA Club World Cup title for the third time, and the first since 2020, Bayern are showing great determination. Coach Vincent Kompany said: "The match against PSG will be a big challenge, but the whole team will be ready to shine. The most important thing now is to recover physically and prepare mentally for the battle ahead."
Despite playing in the sweltering weather of the US, Bayern have maintained a strong and effective pressing style. They are the top scorers in the tournament (16), including 10 against Auckland City, leading the way in high-altitude ball wins (56) and pressing sequences (68), and second in final-third passes (955).
Form, head-to-head history
PSG have lost all four of their last meetings with Bayern Munich, failing to score a single goal. The most recent was a 0-1 away defeat in the Champions League group stage in November 2024, a match in which PSG played with 10 men. However, the French team then went on to win the Champions League for the first time.
Head-to-head history favors the German team: in the last 9 encounters with PSG, all in the Champions League, Bayern won 7 and lost only 2. The only time the two teams met outside of official tournaments was at the 2018 ICC in the US, Bayern also won with a score of 3-1.
Force information
PSG welcomed back Ousmane Dembele, who came on as a second-half substitute against Inter Miami after missing the entire group stage with a thigh injury. However, the Ballon d'Or nominee's starting position remains to be seen.
Coach Enrique will likely continue to rely on the trio of Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in attack. Key players like Marquinhos and Fabian Ruiz were taken off in the first half of the match against Inter Miami to save energy and will almost certainly return to the starting lineup.
Bayern are still without Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito due to injury. Centre-back Kim Min-jae has returned but is not ready to play.
Leroy Sane has officially left Bayern to join Galatasaray, while legend Thomas Muller will also leave the team after this tournament, which could very well be his 756th and final match if Bayern lose to PSG.
Kingsley Coman picked up a muscle injury against Flamengo but it is not too serious. He will compete with Muller, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala for a starting spot, supporting striker Harry Kane, who has scored three goals in four games at the Club World Cup.
PSG (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves; Barcola, Doue, Kvaratskhelia
Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Tah, Upamecano, Stanisic; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Musiala, Coman; Kane
Score prediction: PSG 3-1 Bayern Munich
