They found that people between the ages of 18 and 40 who exercised too little had higher blood pressure levels in middle age, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

Regular exercise when young can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure in middle age.

To avoid high blood pressure in middle age, young people should exercise moderately to vigorously for at least 5 hours a week. This is much higher than the current recommendations of health authorities for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise a week or at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise a week.

The researchers also said that getting at least five hours of moderate-intensity exercise per week can be challenging for many young people, as they face new life changes and increased responsibilities.
