Affirming the position and brand of 4-star OCOP products in the market

In the journey of developing the rural economy in a sustainable direction, the “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program has been creating motivation for localities to unleash their potential, advantages, and improve the quality of their typical products. In Hung Yen, many 4-star OCOP products have not only affirmed their position in terms of quality but also gradually reached out to the large market, contributing to building an increasingly prestigious and sustainable local brand.

In recent times, many enterprises have promoted the application of technology, increased the added value of seafood products, and expanded the market. In particular, Ngoc Minh Seafood Company Limited, Nam Cuong Commune is one of the pioneers in combining traditional production and modern OCOP standards. Each year, the company purchases, processes and consumes about 1,800 tons of seafood, supplying markets in and outside the province. In particular, since 2022, the unit has boldly invested in building OCOP products, with 4 products achieving 3 stars, including: Dried shrimp, shrimp cakes, shrimp buds, and grouper cakes. In particular, in 2025, the company's mantis shrimp floss product was recognized by the Provincial OCOP Council as meeting 4-star OCOP standards, a milestone affirming the enterprise's continuous efforts in elevating typical coastal products. Mr. Pham Van Dong, Director of the Company shared: The mantis shrimp product is the crystallization of a strict process from the selection of fresh ingredients, clean processing, no additives to modern packaging. The product is now available in many supermarkets, clean food stores in Hanoi , Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen... With beautiful packaging, transparent information and QR code to trace the origin, the product is increasingly popular with consumers. Not only helping businesses expand their market share, mantis shrimp is also proof that a local product can reach brand status thanks to the perseverance, method and dedication of the craftsmen. Thereby, contributing to the company's revenue reaching over 16 billion VND per year. From a traditional craft village product, mantis shrimp has now become a hometown gift with a clear brand, gradually affirming its position in the market.

Not only famous for seafood, Hung Yen also preserves many traditional products imbued with the spirit of the rice countryside. In particular, banh cay - a specialty of Nguyen village, Dong Hung commune has long been a hometown gift that is cherished and preserved by the people. The rustic cake made from golden sticky rice, peanuts, ginger, sesame... is the crystallization of the land, climate and the hands of talented craftsmen. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Manh, the owner of a typical establishment in preserving and enhancing the value of traditional banh cay, shared: Thanks to the OCOP program, our brand is increasingly known by many consumers. Since achieving 4-star OCOP in 2022, the product has grown by over 20% each year. Banh cay, peanut candy and sesame candy are currently the 3 best-selling products, growing by over 30%. Not only developing in scale and revenue, the establishment also creates stable jobs for about 50 local workers, with an average income of 8 - 10 million VND/person/month. Currently, the factory produces about 2.5 tons of confectionery per day, increasing to 6 - 8 tons/day during peak season, contributing to creating livelihoods, preserving the profession, and passing on the profession to the younger generation in the region.

The positive results from the OCOP program in Hung Yen clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of developing rural products associated with building local brands. However, for OCOP to truly become a driving force for the rural economy , in addition to the efforts of the subjects, there is also the active support of authorities at all levels. In many localities, the authorities have proactively reviewed and assessed the potential of strong products, orienting the development into OCOP products. At the same time, they support registration procedures, connect consulting units, organize training courses to improve marketing skills, and apply digital technology in product promotion and consumption. Many communes also actively invite businesses and cooperatives to participate in the program, creating a more diverse, rich and professional OCOP ecosystem. Thanks to that companionship, many 4-star OCOP products such as mantis shrimp floss, fish cake, rice, longan, herbal tea... are not only limited to small scale but gradually form a closed value chain, improving competitiveness. More importantly, the OCOP program is creating opportunities for traditional products to rise up, approach large markets in a systematic and professional manner, contributing to shifting the rural economic structure in a positive direction.

Hung Yen identifies OCOP as the key solution to develop advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas. The support of the government, businesses and people will be the key to help hometown products not only become known but also trusted, reach out and affirm their brands in the market.
