In Son village, Tay Tra commune, there are durian trees that are 20-30 years old, planted by the Cor people in their gardens and on the hillsides. This durian tree is so round that two people can hug it. The tree bears very even and delicious fruit. Each season, traders come to buy the whole tree, at a price of 15 to 20 million VND.
Mr. Ho Van Duong, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Son Village, Tay Tra Commune, Quang Ngai , said: " Currently, there are about 500 durian trees in Son Village. People grow them themselves and find the climate and soil conditions here suitable. The durian trees grow, bear fruit and are purchased by traders . "
Based on a survey of the potential for durian development, in 2021, the local agricultural sector implemented a model of intensive cultivation of Ri6 durian on a scale of 3 hectares, with 3 households participating. After 4 years of care, the durian trees grew well, with a high survival rate. Some trees have already borne fruit.
Mr. Ho Van Quan, in Tay Tra commune, Quang Ngai, said: " After 4 years, the tree has grown well. I think this crop will become a main crop for the people if it produces guaranteed fruit."
In addition to the model implemented by the agricultural sector, many Co households in Son village are currently investing in growing durian trees in their gardens to increase their income. The successful durian growing model will contribute to diversifying crops in this land with great potential.
