Sky Sports said Brighton were also pleased with Mitoma's performance over the years and wanted to negotiate a new contract with the Japanese international. Currently, the contract between the two parties runs until 2027.

Brighton have previously rejected offers from Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr for Mitoma. Bayern Munich are also keen on Mitoma, considering him one of their top targets for the left-back position this summer.

After three seasons at Brighton, Mitoma scored 24 goals in 108 games in all competitions. The Japanese midfielder had an impressive 2024/25 season with 10 goals and 3 assists in 35 Premier League games.

Since joining Brighton in 2021 from Kawasaki Frontale for just £2.7m, Mitoma has made remarkable progress, becoming an irreplaceable mainstay under many Brighton coaches. Current Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler also highly rates Mitoma.

Brighton manager Hurzeler told Sky Sports : "We always try to keep the best players. Mitoma had a great season, but that can only happen because of the support from the whole team. The most important thing is that the players understand this, and Mitoma understood this best last season."

Coach Hurzeler also said he is very eager to meet Mitoma again next week to prepare for the pre-season training trip.
