The Vietnamese women's team is playing very successfully in the 2026 Asian Women's Championship qualifiers (2026 AFC Women's Cup). After two matches in Group E, the team under the direction of coach Mai Duc Chung earned a full 6 points thanks to 2 convincing victories.
In the opening match, Huynh Nhu and her teammates did not encounter many difficulties to win 7-0 against the Maldives women's team. Entering the second match, the challenge is considered bigger for the home women's players when they have to face the unknown team named UAE women's team.
The West Asian representative team includes the core of players playing for Abu Dhabi Country Club, the team that once made the most successful club in Vietnamese women's football, Ho Chi Minh City, struggle to defeat in the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 Asian Women's C1 Cup.
But contrary to the pre-match assessment, coach Mai Duc Chung's team created a completely overwhelming game and won easily 6-0. Thanks to that, the Vietnamese women's team holds a 90% chance of winning a ticket to the biggest football festival in the continent next March in Australia.
As for Guam, the women's team is currently ranked 2nd with 4 points, drawing 0-0 with UAE and winning 3-0 with Maldives. In theory, coach Kimberly Sherman's team still has a chance to take the top spot. If they defeat Vietnam, Guam will rise to claim the only ticket in Group E.
But in reality, the chance of the Oceania representative creating a surprise is not high. On the FIFA rankings, Guam women are only ranked 97th in the world , 60 places lower than the Vietnamese women's team. The difference in class between the two sides is clearly shown through the performance of the two teams in Viet Tri.
While the home team has a well-balanced squad, the Guam women's team did not show many truly outstanding players. The most notable player was striker Rebecca Bartosh, who plays for Rome City (Italy). The 24-year-old striker also scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over the Maldives women's team.
Despite facing a weaker opponent, the Vietnamese women's team will not enter the field with a subjective mentality. Huynh Nhu, Hai Yen, Chuong Thi Kieu... will still fight with the same spirit as they showed in the previous two matches. Only a draw is needed to complete the goal, but surely, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team want more than that.
If you cannot go directly to Viet Tri Stadium to cheer for the female warriors in red, Vietnamese football fans can completely watch the match through FPT Play's online platform.
