The national spirit and aspiration that created the power of the waterfall 79 years ago is urging the entire nation to reach out and quickly take steps to bring Vietnam to stand among the ranks of developed countries by 2045.
Today, September 2, the Vietnamese people proudly celebrate the 79th anniversary of National Day. The further we go in the flow of history, the more each Vietnamese person understands the sacred meaning of a country with complete sovereignty attached to a political regime objectively chosen by history.
And proud of the aspiration of “Independence” 79 years ago that blossomed into “Freedom-Happiness,” each person increasingly nurtures the desire to fulfill the nation’s deep and burning aspiration. That is to build a powerful country .
Looking back 79 years ago, our people were oppressed under the domination of colonialists and feudalists. Patriotic movements in the late 19th and early 20th centuries rose up strongly but all failed. People's lives were miserable, the consequence of the famine in 1945 killed more than two million people, 90% of the population was illiterate.
Only under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, the forces of the entire nation were gathered and courageously stood up, creating a waterfall of strength.
That power washed away the humiliation of more than 80 years of French colonial rule, swept Japanese fascists out of the country, and drowned the feudal regime.
That power has revived the whole nation, bringing new breath and vitality to countless people who were recently slaves.
Responding to the aspirations of the entire nation, on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly declaring to the world a new nation - the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Since that important milestone, the country has added to its heroic tradition with glorious feats in the struggle for national liberation, national unification, and the building and protection of the Fatherland.
And the success of the Doi Moi cause initiated by our Party in 1986 has brought Vietnam into the top 40 leading economies, with a trade scale in the top 20 countries in the world, an important link in 16 free trade agreements connecting with 60 key economies in the region and globally.
From an isolated country, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries around the world, has Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Partnership with 30 countries, including all permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, major countries and is an active member of over 70 regional and international organizations.
Celebrating National Day, realizing more deeply the meaning, value and achievements of Independence, each Vietnamese person burns with a deep desire to "successfully build a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic and prosperous Vietnam, contributing worthily to the world revolutionary cause" as President Ho Chi Minh's last wish.
But looking back and looking around, one can feel that the journey to bring the country "on par with the world powers" is an "extremely large, complicated and difficult" undertaking.
Because economic size is not everything. A developed country needs to achieve economic criteria such as per capita income, gross domestic product, level of industrialization, average standard of living and the amount of technological and non-economic infrastructure such as the human development index (HDI), an index that assesses the educational level, literacy and health of the population.
The path to bringing the country "on par with the world powers" is also a journey of self-elimination, self-struggle to overcome and overcome internal weaknesses.
After 79 years since the founding of the nation and 55 years of implementing President Ho Chi Minh's Testament, we have achieved many important achievements but there are still many things that have not been fulfilled according to Uncle Ho's instructions. Among them are bureaucracy, distance from the masses, and going against the interests of the people among a number of cadres and party members, which are affecting the prestige and weakening the strength of the Party.
Moreover, problems among cadres and party members, major corruption and economic cases involving high-ranking officials are still warning of the risk of erosion and people's skepticism towards the Party's goals and ideals, threatening the survival of the Party, the State and the regime. Therefore, the fight against corruption and negativity is being promoted by the Party and the State along with efforts to develop the economy and society.
Looking straight at the truth, clearly recognizing the difficulties and limitations, is not to belittle the achievements the country has made after 79 years, since September 2, 1945. Courageously seeing weaknesses and being determined to overcome shortcomings is also for the country to move forward steadily. That is also an extremely important foundation, fostering trust in the Party and the State, so that the people believe, love and wholeheartedly build and protect the Party, the State and the regime.

It is predicted that this will be a journey full of bitterness and sweetness.
But, “with the right direction, strong development aspirations and high political determination, our country will certainly create a new development miracle for a prosperous and happy Vietnam, moving forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers, successfully realizing the wishes of the great President Ho Chi Minh and the aspirations of our entire nation” as our Party set out at the 13th National Congress./.
