Even growth across industries
According to the statistics of the Da Nang City Statistics Office, in the first 6 months of 2025, the new Da Nang City (merged between Da Nang and Quang Nam ) had a GRDP growth rate of 9.43%. Of which, Da Nang (old) achieved a growth rate of 11.7%, demonstrating a leading role with outstanding recovery and development speed in the service, processing, manufacturing and tourism industries; Quang Nam grew by 6.63%, contributing to the stability and foundation of industrial and agricultural production in the region.
With an increase of 9.43% in the past 6 months, Da Nang's GRDP growth rate ranked 8th out of 34 provinces and centrally-run cities (after the merger). Of which, Da Nang city (old) contributed 6.47 percentage points and Quang Nam contributed 2.96 percentage points to the overall GRDP growth rate of the whole city.
According to the Da Nang City Statistics Office, Da Nang's economic growth was strongly boosted by the even and impressive recovery in all three economic sectors. Going deeper into the economic sectors, the added value (VA) of the industrial and construction sectors played a leading role with a 6-month increase of 13.19% (contributing 3.89 percentage points to the total VA increase of the entire economy).

In the service sector, VA growth in the first 6 months of the year of this sector is estimated at 10.37% (contributing 6.41 percentage points), reflecting the clear recovery of tourism, retail, transportation and business support services. In particular, the number of domestic and international tourists to Da Nang increased, promoting consumption and cash flow in the economy.
The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector is estimated to increase by 3.44%. Although the increase is quite modest compared to the other two economic sectors, it still shows stability and an important supporting role in the city's economic structure, especially in the context of climate change and increasing urbanization.
The scale of GRDP at current prices in the first 6 months of 2025 of Da Nang city (new) reached 148.8 trillion VND. Nationally, the scale of GRDP in the first 6 months of 2025 of Da Nang city (new) accounts for 2.5% of the country's GDP and ranks 11th out of 34 provinces and cities after the merger.
Shift towards service - industry
Before the merger, both Quang Nam and Da Nang city played an important role in the regional economic structure. The scale of GRDP of the old Da Nang city in the first 6 months of the year was about 81.3 trillion VND (accounting for 54.6% of the total GRDP of the new city), showing that Da Nang is playing the role of a key economic center, with outstanding strengths in the fields of services, tourism, information technology and logistics.
Meanwhile, the scale of GRDP of the old Quang Nam province in the first half of 2025 reached about 67.5 trillion VND (equivalent to 45.4% of GRDP of the new Da Nang city). Although the growth rate is lower than the old Da Nang city, Quang Nam plays a fundamental role in industrial production, agriculture and labor supply.
The economic structure of Da Nang city (new) in the first 6 months of 2025 continues to show a strong shift towards services - industry, with the service sector accounting for the highest proportion (reaching 55.68% of the total GRDP). This is a clear demonstration of the role of the service, tourism, education and logistics center of the region, especially with the leadership of Da Nang city (old) considered the locomotive of regional growth.
Meanwhile, the industrial and construction sector accounts for 24.6%, reflecting Quang Nam's fundamental role in production, especially in industrial parks in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and some key industrial clusters.
Notably, the construction sector increased by 18.3%, a bright spot in the regional economic picture, reflecting the effectiveness of accelerating public investment, developing urban transport infrastructure and implementing major projects such as the North-South Expressway, new urban areas and industrial-tourism infrastructure.

According to the Da Nang City Statistics Office, the difference in GRDP scale between the two localities of Quang Nam - Da Nang in the first 6 months of 2025 reflects the shift in economic focus towards the central urban area, but at the same time also emphasizes the connectivity and regional complementarity between the two localities.
Synchronously promoting the advantages of both will be the key condition for the merged city of Da Nang to truly become a sustainable growth pole of the Central region in the coming period.
Growth target feasibility
In general, the economic structure of the new Da Nang is showing the characteristics of a developed industrial - service urban area with high connectivity, with services playing a leading role, industry as the foundation and agriculture gradually transforming towards high technology and ecology.
Faced with mixed difficulties and advantages, to maintain growth momentum in the last 6 months of 2025 for Da Nang city, the City Statistics Office proposed to continue promoting disbursement of public investment capital, especially key infrastructure projects.
At the same time, review and remove obstacles in legal procedures for non-budget investment projects, especially in land, environment, and planning; strengthen investment promotion with focus, prioritizing strategic investors in the fields of high technology, smart cities, and logistics infrastructure.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Quang Binh (University of Economics - University of Da Nang), although the growth rate of Quang Nam province (old) was not as expected, thanks to the economic scale of Da Nang city (old) being larger than Quang Nam, the growth rate of the new Da Nang city in the first 6 months of the year was raised to approximately 10%.
“The industrial strength of Quang Nam (old) in the first half of this year was a bit quiet, there needs to be solutions to boost this momentum to contribute to the overall growth target of Da Nang city in 2025. In recent years, Quang Nam's industrial sector has often recorded breakthroughs in the second half of each year, especially if there are preferential policies.
Investment through the industrial and construction sector also contributes greatly to growth, so it is necessary to improve this in areas of Quang Nam province (old), especially public investment projects. With a growth rate of 9.43% in the first 6 months of the year, the growth target of 10% this year for Da Nang city is within reach," said Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Quang Binh.
