Many speakers discussed multi-dimensional perspectives on strategies for building zero-emission cities, developing green transport, reducing waste and promoting sustainable tourism.

Dr. Pham Van Dai, Lecturer of Public Policy, Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management, shared experiences from developed countries in implementing zero emission commitments. Representing Vingroup Corporation, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Linh - Managing Director of GSM Vietnam Market - gave her opinion on the plan to comprehensively electrify the public and private vehicle system and tourism services in Phu Quoc in the period of 2025-2026, along with a network of smart charging stations and policies to encourage the conversion to green vehicles on the "pearl island".
Ms. Nguyen Thi My Quynh - Project Manager, World Wildlife Fund (WWF-Vietnam) - said that after 3 years of implementing the project "Phu Quoc - Towards a plastic waste-free city" implemented by WWF from 2019 to 2022, the density of plastic waste on Phu Quoc's coastline has decreased by more than 700 tons. The project's goal is to reduce 30% of plastic waste in Phu Quoc by 2025. From there, she proposed a series of solutions for communication, policy, and plastic waste management in the community.
Phu Quoc is aiming to become Vietnam's first zero-emission city model.
As the leader of the local spearhead industry, Mr. Bui Quoc Thai - Director of Kien Giang Province Department of Tourism - acknowledged that although the orientation is to build Phu Quoc into an international-class green tourism city, Kien Giang province's tourism industry is still in the initial stages of the green transformation process.
"In recent years, the tourism industry has been recovering and developing again. By 2024, tourism performance has surpassed the peak of Kien Giang tourism in 2019 with the number of visitors increasing by more than 12.3%.
However, tourism activities still face many difficulties and challenges. Tourism infrastructure has not kept up with development requirements; technical facilities, services, and environmentally friendly equipment are still limited; there is a lack of large-scale, high-quality facilities that are close to nature; there is a lack of skilled human resources; waste and wastewater treatment has not received due investment... affecting sustainable tourism development.

However, the orientation of building Phu Quoc tourism industry according to a green and sustainable model is a goal and orientation that must be implemented throughout. Especially, in the context of preparing for the APEC Summit Week in 2027" - Mr. Thai emphasized.
In addition, experts, representatives of associations, leading businesses in tourism, aviation, local specialties and leaders of departments and branches discussed and proposed ideas and solutions on technology, logistics, policies, ensuring harmony between conservation factors, innovation and green economic growth.
In particular, at the event, there was also a signing ceremony of the "Declaration of Joint Action for Green Phu Quoc" between representatives of the government, businesses and international organizations to affirm a strong commitment to reducing emissions and building a green and sustainable urban area.
Summarizing the workshop, the Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee said that the presentations, perspectives and solutions shared by delegates at the workshop not only helped Kien Giang province and Phu Quoc city see more clearly the opportunities and challenges ahead, but also opened up creative directions, especially in regional connectivity, digital transformation and sustainable development.
