Kinhtedothi - Nha Trang City People's Committee has issued an urgent document directing functional forces to inspect and handle information about soliciting and illegally collecting fees from tourists at public beach areas in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province.
On the morning of December 31, the Office of the Nha Trang City People's Committee announced that Vice Chairman of the Nha Trang City People's Committee Nguyen Van Minh signed an urgent document to the Department of Culture and Information, the City Police, and the City Youth Union regarding the inspection and handling of information about soliciting and illegally collecting fees from tourists at public beach areas in Nha Trang City.
Previously, on December 30, Mr. Pham Minh Nhut, Permanent Vice President of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, sent a document to Nha Trang City People's Committee to reflect the situation of soliciting and illegally collecting fees from tourists at public beaches along Tran Phu Street.
Specifically, in recent days, foreign tourists walking along the east coast of Tran Phu Street, Nha Trang City were suddenly followed by some people who said: "This is our beach, I need to collect a fee from you, each person is 200,000 VND".
When tourists asked why they were charging a fee at a public beach when they were just walking along the beach, the men did not answer and only said “fee”. When tourists refused to pay, the young men called a group of people to surround the tourists and followed them for nearly 1km, blocking their way wherever they went.
Tourists recorded images of some of the objects and sent them to their tour guides, who then shared the images on Chinese social media.
The leaders of the Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association said that the acts of self-collecting fees and blocking the way of tourists by these subjects show signs of violating the law, creating a bad image for Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa tourism, affecting the insecurity and safety of international tourists in general and Chinese tourists in particular. These images and information spread on social networking sites will affect the number of tourists coming to Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa in the near future.
Accordingly, the Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association has sent a document with photos to the Nha Trang City People's Committee and requested local authorities to have solutions to prevent and improve the tourism environment and social order and safety in the locality, contributing to preserving and developing the tourism brand.
