Creative in approach and flexible in implementation, theeducation sector of Quang Ngai province is gradually realizing the aspiration of "everyone being literate" through the application of digital technology in literacy work.

Organizing training using the YouTube channel "Popular Education" is considered a strong step forward, bringing new vitality to the work of universalizing education in remote communes and ethnic minority areas.

After two training sessions held in early June 2025, more than 850 trainees, including education officers and volunteers from the western communes of Quang Ngai province, were fully equipped with skills and methods to learn together how to effectively exploit the YouTube channel "Binh dan hoc vu so" in the work of eliminating illiteracy.

YouTube Channel of Hope

The YouTube channel “Digital Education for the People” is a creative product within the framework of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period. With friendly and familiar learning content, the channel builds a system of videos teaching basic subjects such as Math, Vietnamese, Natural and Social Sciences, designed to suit illiterate adults, especially ethnic minorities.

What is special is that these videos not only help learners access knowledge visually through images and sounds, but also integrate QR codes for quick and convenient access. Learners only need a smartphone with internet connection to be able to study anytime, anywhere. This is a big plus in the context of many remote areas lacking teachers, classrooms, and learning conditions.

Ms. Nong Thi Nga, a teacher at Le Van Tam Primary School, Sa Binh Commune, Quang Ngai Province, said that the literacy class received timely attention and direction from superiors and the participation of the political system at the grassroots level, so the study time was guaranteed. However, there were still some difficulties such as: Most of the students were from difficult circumstances, had young children, and mainly worked in the fields, so the study time was sometimes not guaranteed. The volunteer force for the literacy classes was still thin...

A notable highlight of the training content is the guidance for trainees to organize community study groups, small group study models locally and via the online platform Zalo. Ms. Phan Thi Dong, Principal of Dang Tran Con Primary School, Dak Cam Ward, said: “This method both arouses the spirit of self-study and promotes community strength. When one person knows how to read and write, they can continue to help others learn. Like that, the ripple effect will become stronger and stronger.”

From Universal Education in 1945 to Digital Transformation in 2025

Inspired by the 1945 “Popular Education” movement, one of the most successful literacy campaigns in Vietnamese history, the “Popular Education Digital” channel is a continuation of the tradition of “popular literacy” in a new context: the digital age.

According to comrade Huynh Thi Thu Van, Head of the Preschool and Primary Education Department, Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai province: "We clearly identify that eliminating illiteracy is not only teaching reading and writing, but also teaching skills for people to live and work more effectively in modern society.

This YouTube channel not only imparts knowledge but also serves as a bridge to build a digital learning community in disadvantaged areas. Under the close direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the synchronous coordination between specialized departments and organizations, the organization of training and implementation of the digital learning channel model has been carried out methodically and effectively.

Ms. Nguyen Thi My Hue, Principal of Ngo Quyen Primary School, Kon Tum Ward, Quang Ngai Province, who directly participated in teaching at the training class, said: “I am really impressed with the learning spirit of the trainees, especially the volunteers from remote areas. Although many of them are old and not used to using smartphones, they learn very quickly and are very progressive. This is a good sign, showing that the digitalization path in education is being positively received.”

The training program has created a network of “knowledge seeds” ready to spread the spirit of learning to every family and every village. By effectively exploiting the “Digital Popular Education” channel, Quang Ngai province is taking the lead in applying digital technology to the work of eliminating illiteracy. This is not only a temporary solution in the context of a shortage of teachers or geographical difficulties, but also a long-term strategy to build a learning society, narrowing the knowledge gap between regions and ethnic groups.

“Digital Education for All” has opened the door to new knowledge for thousands of people in remote areas. It is not only a step in the fight against illiteracy, but also a symbol of innovation, creativity and the continuous efforts of the local education sector in bringing the light of knowledge to every village.
