Pig-tailed macaque attacks and injures many people

After attacking a 10-year-old girl in Cam Lo commune, Quang Tri province, causing her to be hospitalized, the pig-tailed monkey continued to attack the people who were trying to capture her, injuring four people.

On the afternoon of July 5, news from the Quang Tri Provincial Forest Protection Department said that local authorities, including Cam Lo Forest Protection Department, in coordination with Nghia An Prison Police, forest protection forces of the Quang Tri Special-Use Forest Management Board and Loc Trung village (Cam Lo commune), had captured a pig-tailed macaque that appeared in the area. During the capture, the pig-tailed macaque attacked and injured four people in the capture force.

Little girl Bui Thi NQ was attacked by a pig-tailed monkey and had to be hospitalized for examination and treatment.

It is known that before that, Bui Thi NQ (10 years old), residing in Dak Lak province, went to visit relatives in Cam Lo commune. At around 9:00 a.m. on July 3, Bui Thi NQ and her family went to Rao Vinh stream, Cam Lo commune to bathe. Suddenly, Bui Thi NQ was attacked by a monkey, causing her to be injured and had to be hospitalized.

Upon receiving the news of the incident, Cam Lo Forest Protection Department, Quang Tri province coordinated with local authorities to capture the monkey and release it into the wild in a suitable location. It is known that the monkey belongs to the pig-tailed macaque species - Macaca leonina, male, weighing about 10kg, belonging to the rare group IIB.
