Swedish company Tetra Pak has inaugurated phase 2 of its aseptic packaging factory in Ho Chi Minh City, demonstrating Tetra Pak's confidence in Vietnam's investment environment.
On the morning of July 3, Tetra Pak Company - a unit of the world's leading corporation from Sweden in the field of food processing and packaging solutions - inaugurated the second phase of the sterile packaging factory in VSIP II-A industrial park, Vinh Tan ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
The project has a total investment of 217 million euros, with phase 2 having an investment of 97 million euros, with advanced technology and enhanced competitiveness. The inauguration of phase 2 of the factory has demonstrated Tetra Pak's strong confidence in Vietnam's investment environment, and is in line with the national green growth strategy, the national strategy on solid waste management and climate change response to 2050.
According to Tetra Pak, this expansion will bring the total capacity of the factory to more than 30 billion boxes/year, with 15 new packaging formats, effectively serving key markets in the region such as Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand; in particular, more than 55% of the output will serve the domestic market, contributing to enhancing the autonomy of the packaging and food and beverage (F&B) industry in Vietnam.
Mr. Adolfo Orive, President and CEO of Tetra Pak, said: “The expansion of our factory in Vietnam not only enhances our production capacity but also demonstrates our long-term commitment to the region. We believe that through our innovation, modern manufacturing and sustainable model, Tetra Pak will continue to accompany the development of Vietnam and the Asia- Pacific region.
According to Mr. Adolfo Orive, Asia-Pacific is currently the region with the fastest growth rate in the food and beverage industry in the world, with a market size estimated to reach 900 billion USD by 2028. In that trend, Vietnam is playing an increasingly important role in the global supply chain. With a delivery time of only 7-10 days, the Tetra Pak factory helps domestic enterprises access the market faster and be proactive in product innovation.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh emphasized: Tetra Pak's continued expansion of investment in Vietnam is a vivid demonstration of the strong connection between FDI enterprises and the country's development, especially in the food and technological innovation sectors. This is also a positive signal in the context of Vietnam and Sweden upgrading their strategic partnership in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
“In addition to promoting sustainable growth, the factory expansion will also create more high-skilled jobs, help local workers access advanced technology and improve competitiveness. This is a concrete demonstration of the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in developing high-quality human resources and enhancing Vietnam’s position in the global value chain,” said Mr. Thanh.
Put into operation since 2019, the Tetra Pak factory in Vinh Tan ward currently employs more than 350 workers and is one of the first factories in Vietnam to achieve LEED Gold version 4 certification - a global green building standard.
The factory applies a world-class manufacturing system, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in quality control and highly automated operations. With outstanding achievements, the factory has just been awarded the 2024 JIPM Excellence Award and honored as “Factory of the Year” in the entire Tetra Pak global system.
The company's continued choice of Vietnam as a strategic destination for long-term investment not only affirms the prestige and potential of Vietnam's investment environment, but also contributes to enhancing Vietnam's role in the regional packaging industry./.
