Mountains without worries
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kich (Hoa Vang Commune) is a poor, elderly household living alone in a dilapidated house. Through mobilization, Special Police Group No. 3, Ministry of Public Security undertook to support the construction of a new house. Officers and soldiers contributed 100 million VND from their salaries and supported 200 working days to help build a new house for Ms. Kich. After 2 months of construction, the house was completed and handed over on time.
“From now on, whenever there is a storm, I can stay at home with peace of mind and no longer have to seek shelter elsewhere. This is the most meaningful gift I have received in my old age,” Ms. Kích shared.
Similarly, Mr. Tran Cong Thanh’s family (Hoa Tien commune) is a near-poor household with 5 members, living in a seriously degraded, unsafe level 4 house. From the support fund of 100 million VND from the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Hoa Tien commune, Mr. Thanh’s family borrowed more from relatives to build a new, spacious house, ensuring the “3 hard” criteria (hard floor, hard wall, hard roof), and capable of preventing flooding during the rainy and stormy season.
According to the leaders of Hoa Tien commune, the success in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses must be attributed to the joint efforts, consensus, and support of the community. According to statistics, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune received nearly 147 million VND, 2,000 working days, and 12.5 tons of cement. Women's associations supported meals, excavators for dismantling and leveling the ground, etc. with a total converted cost of more than 838 million VND. In addition, units and enterprises directly supported households with 313 million VND, contributing to bringing the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses to an early finish line.
As of June 12, the communes of Hoa Vang, Hoa Tien, and Ba Na have completed the program of eliminating 279 temporary and dilapidated houses, including: 68 houses of revolutionary contributors, 51 poor households, 25 near-poor households, and 135 households. The total cost of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is nearly 23.8 billion VND and more than 4,900 working days.
According to local leaders, the completion of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses will help households stabilize their lives, creating an important foundation for the program of sustainable poverty reduction, building advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas, contributing to strengthening people's trust in the Party and government.
Make every effort to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.
The representative of the standing agency of the City Party Committee's Steering Committee on the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the city said that in 2024 and 2025, the total approved need for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is 2,037 houses, including: 373 newly built houses, 1,664 repaired houses. Of which, 1,032 are households with meritorious services, 573 are poor households, 94 are near-poor households, and 338 are households.

According to Plan No. 06/KH-BCĐ of the City Party Committee's Steering Committee on the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the city, the entire city strives to complete the elimination of temporary, dilapidated and degraded houses before September 2, in order to make achievements to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2 and welcome the 23rd Congress of the City Party Committee. In that spirit, the entire political system is making every effort to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles, competing to speed up the progress of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
In order for the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses to proceed smoothly, in addition to timely disbursing funds to households, the government, the Fatherland Front, and mass organizations at all levels should increase the mobilization of resources from the community to join hands in supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses.
According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, as of June 12, the Front at all levels mobilized and received 24.44 billion VND in support of the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses from hundreds of organizations, units and individuals. Notably, in many localities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee coordinated with associations and unions to mobilize more than 5,500 working days from youth, women, veterans, militia and armed forces to support people in building and repairing houses.
To support people in building and repairing houses to ensure safety criteria, the Department of Construction promptly researched and proposed typical house models for households with revolutionary contributions, poor households, and near-poor households to refer to.
In particular, to help households have more conditions to improve their housing, in addition to the support level prescribed by the Central Government of 60 million VND/newly built house and 30 million VND/repaired house, the city increases the support level for households with revolutionary contributions, relatives of martyrs, poor households, and near-poor households.
Accordingly, support for households with revolutionary contributions and martyrs' relatives is 100 million VND/newly built house, 40 million VND/repaired house; poor and near-poor households are 80 million VND/newly built house, 30 million VND/repaired house. For households, the level remains 60 million VND/newly built house, 30 million VND/repaired house.
In order to help people stabilize their lives soon, the City Front coordinated with localities to donate essential household items to help ease the difficulties of families' lives.
According to the Department of Construction, the total budget for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in 2024 and 2025 in the city is VND 81,145 billion, of which the city budget is VND 53,269 billion; the Fund for the Poor is VND 17,011 billion; the Fund for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses is VND 12,240 billion. Thanks to the simultaneous implementation with high determination, as of June 22, the entire city completed the elimination of 2,037 temporary and dilapidated houses, 2 months ahead of schedule compared to the set plan.
Not only supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the city, Da Nang also allocated 71 billion VND from the budget to support Hau Giang province to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city allocated the Temporary and Dilapidated House Elimination Fund to support the construction of 10 new houses for poor and near-poor households in Ea Le commune (Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province), a total amount of 600 million VND, contributing to helping localities soon complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses.
At the recent closing ceremony of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, representatives of the city People's Committee requested units and localities to continue to care for people's lives; focus on supporting livelihoods to help poor and disadvantaged households do business and develop the economy.
At the same time, review and promote the implementation of social security policies, focusing on taking care of people in mountainous and island communes and wards of the new Da Nang city, contributing to continuing to build the image of a city with "5 no's", "3 yes's", "4 safe".
It can be said that the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is a special political task in 2025. The program opens up opportunities to help poor households, near-poor households, and families in difficult circumstances escape from living in temporary and unsafe houses. The program is a major, humane, and important policy of the Party and State, affirming national sentiment and compatriotism, contributing to caring for people's lives, gradually bringing the country into a new era.
