The durian market today, July 4, continues to maintain a low price trend in the popular segment and stable in the high-end segment. The bottom price of buying in bulk at 25,000 VND/kg in the Central Highlands shows that supply is exceeding demand in the short term. The high-end segment remains stable, while frozen exports have tripled compared to last year.

Durian prices today, July 4, continue to maintain a wide range, fluctuating from 25,000 - 84,000 VND/kg depending on the type and region. Of which, durian bought in bulk - the most popular type - is being purchased at a record low price, only from 25,000 VND/kg, reflecting that supply is at the peak of the harvest and market demand has not really recovered strongly.

In the Mekong Delta region, durian prices are listed at VND30,000 - VND95,000/kg; meanwhile, in the Southeast region, they range from VND30,000 - VND80,000/kg and in the Central Highlands, they range from VND25,000 - VND80,000/kg. The highest domestic price is still for the group of selected Thai durians, ranging from VND76,000 - VND84,000/kg, stable compared to previous days.

In particular, the Musang King variety – considered the “king of durian” imported from Malaysia – is maintaining a high price of VND85,000 – 120,000/kg, serving the high-end domestic segment. In the Central Highlands, the Dona variety continues to dominate the high-quality durian group, with prices ranging from VND57,000 – 80,000/kg, unchanged from yesterday.

On the export side, frozen durian is growing strongly, creating a new and promising direction for the industry. With policy support from the Protocol, along with China approving more codes for growing areas and factories, the durian market has a clear chance of recovering from the third quarter of this year.

According to VNA, by the end of June 2025, Vietnam had exported 5,217 batches of fresh durian with a total output of nearly 130,000 tons, and 388 batches of frozen durian, reaching 14,282 tons - 3 times higher than the same period last year. This is considered a remarkable result after the Protocol on exporting frozen durian to China officially took effect from August 2024.

The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) assessed that opening the market has strongly promoted businesses to shift to deep processing, thereby reducing the pressure of dependence on fresh durian and diversifying export markets.

In particular, according to Mr. Do Hong Khanh, Chief of Office of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, China has just approved nearly 1,000 more codes for growing areas and packaging facilities in Vietnam. Along with that, some markets such as Korea, Japan, and the EU are also expanding frozen durian imports, creating more room for growth in the coming months.

Despite impressive growth in frozen durian exports, the fresh durian market has yet to recover as strongly as expected. The Ministry of Agriculture said that the third quarter of 2025 – especially from August to October – will be the main crop and is expected to help durian prices recover.

However, the recovery depends largely on the assurance of quality, food safety and traceability by businesses and farmers. If violations of standards recur, the risk of export restrictions or suspension is entirely possible.

At the same time, the potential of frozen durian is highly appreciated thanks to its ability to preserve for a long time and flexibly meet market demand. Many Vietnamese enterprises have invested in modern freezing lines and cold storage facilities that meet export standards to China and Europe, showing that the trend of shifting to deep processing is becoming increasingly evident.

To take advantage of this opportunity, businesses and farmers need to improve professionalism in production - harvesting - packaging, and strictly adhere to international standards. Only by ensuring stable and consistent quality can Vietnamese durian maintain its market position and increase its export value sustainably.
