Gia Lai faces the risk of African swine fever spreading
According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, after many years of African swine fever being controlled thanks to disease prevention solutions from the authorities, the disease has now reappeared in An Nhon Dong ward.
On the afternoon of July 3, the garden of about 500 square meters with 2 rows of newly built pigsties, brand new lime mortar (each row has 5 pens) of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tho (born in 1984) in Hao Duc area, An Nhon Dong ward (Gia Lai province), formerly Hao Duc village, Nhon An commune (old Binh Dinh) had a lot of people gathered.
They were not traders who came to buy pigs, but veterinarians and workers hired to transport Mr. Tho's pigs go to the destruction pit. Because,Mr. Tho's entire herd of pigs tested positive for African swine fever.
According to Mr. Huynh Van Thanh, a veterinary officer at the Agricultural Service Center of An Nhon town (formerly), the symptoms of pigs with African swine fever are not as easily recognizable as before, with bleeding; now, perhaps because the virulence has decreased pigs, no longer bleeding, but are just lethargic, stop eating, and show signs of fever.
After taking 1 combined sample (3 single samples) and sending it to the Gia Lai Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department for testing at the Veterinary Department of Region IV. The results show that the sample was positive for the virus causing African swine fever, so the functional sector encouraged the owner of the livestock farm to destroy 99 pigs that had reached a weight of 80-90 kg/pig in the outside barn.
