The wave of "dumping" live pigs is about to break out because of the sharp price drop
Live hog prices continued to face strong downward pressure across the country on July 4, especially in the Central and Southern regions, where the sharpest declines were recorded. Many provinces lost the threshold of VND68,000/kg, reflecting abundant pork supply while demand from small slaughterhouses and processing enterprises remained weak.
The market overview shows that the price of live pigs is tending to narrow the range and decrease to a lower level. If this situation continues for the next few days, it is likely that small-scale farmers will increase selling, creating more pressure on the market and increasing volatility.
However, with the year-end consumption season approaching and expectations from improved joint farming models, pig prices are still likely to recover slightly in August-September, especially if the market is well managed and input costs are reduced.
