According to the report of the Americas Department (Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations), before presenting his credentials in April 2023, Ambassador Sergio Narea paid a courtesy call to the leaders of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and proposed to coordinate the organization of a ceremony to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (March 25, 1971 - March 25, 2023). The event was solemnly held with the participation of former President of Chile Michelle Bachelet Jeria and the District Chief of Cerro Navia District, the capital city of Santiago - where the statue of President Ho Chi Minh is located.

During his tenure in Vietnam, Ambassador Sergio Narea has closely coordinated with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to carry out many cultural exchange activities, contributing to strengthening the connection between the people of the two countries. On the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Chilean Embassy in Vietnam presented Chu Van An Secondary School (Hanoi) with a painting by famous artist Alejandro Mono Gonzalez, and invited students from the school to assist artist Jennifer Diaz in completing an artwork about the friendship between Vietnam and Chile. These activities not only help spread Chilean culture but also contributeto educating the young generation of Vietnam about the traditional relationship between the two countries.
At the local level, the Ambassador arranged visits by former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Jeria to Nghe An and Binh Duong (2023), and directly visited and worked in Son La province in March 2025 to explore cooperation opportunities in the agricultural sector. He also actively promoted people-to-people diplomacy activities on the sidelines of high-level diplomatic programs. In August 2024, he arranged a meeting between the Chilean Foreign Minister and the leaders of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - Chile Friendship and Cooperation Association. In November 2024, he continued to connect a number of partners for President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son to meet and interact on the occasion of participating in a high-level delegation visiting Chile and Peru, contributing to enhancing the role of people-to-people diplomacy in high-level diplomatic activities of the State.
Speaking at the Medal Awarding Ceremony, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son highly appreciated the effective and proactive contributions of Ambassador Sergio Narea during more than two years of working in Vietnam. He emphasized that the Ambassador has left many profound impressions on the people-to-people diplomacy channel, contributing to promoting the friendly relations between the two countries.
"We are happy that the Ambassador is returning to the country to take up a new responsibility, which is also an opportunity to continue to contribute more deeply to the relationship between Chile and countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam," he said.
Mr. Phan Anh Son expressed his thanks and wished the Ambassador success in his new position, and affirmed that he will continue to closely coordinate with the Ambassador's successor in the coming time.

Expressing his emotion upon receiving the Medal, Ambassador Sergio Narea said that this was a great honor in his diplomatic career. He affirmed his deep affection for the country and people of Vietnam, shared his wish to return to Vietnam during the upcoming Lunar New Year and plans to live here permanently after retirement. The Ambassador believes that the relationship between the two peoples will continue to develop, because the Chilean people always have special and consistent affection for Vietnam.
Sharing about his recent working trip to Son La, he said that this is the beginning of a new phase of cooperation in agriculture, aiming to promote two-way trade, contributing to realizing the sustainable growth goals of the two countries.
On this occasion, the Ambassador would like to thank all the staff of the Chilean Embassy in Vietnam, especially the Vietnamese staff - who have played an important role as a bridge between the Embassy and Vietnamese agencies, organizations and people during his tenure.
