The above information was announced by the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ) at a press conference announcing socio-economic statistics for the second quarter and the first 6 months of 2025, which took place this morning (July 5).
Director of the General Statistics Office Nguyen Thanh Huong said that GDP in the second quarter of 2025 grew positively, with an estimated growth rate of 7.96% over the same period last year, only lower than the growth rate of 8.56% in the second quarter of 2022 in the 2020-2025 period.

Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.89%, contributing 5.19% to the total added value of the entire economy. The industry and construction sector increased by 8.97%, contributing 43.63%; the service sector increased by 8.46%, contributing 51.18%.
GDP in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 7.52% over the same period last year, the highest level of the first 6 months in the period 2011-2025. In the total added value growth of the entire economy, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.84%, contributing 5.59%; the industry and construction sector increased by 8.33%, contributing 42.20%; the service sector increased by 8.14%, contributing 52.21%.
In the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, the agricultural sector maintains stable growth, meets domestic consumption needs and serving exports.
The added value of the agricultural sector in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 3.51% over the same period last year, contributing 0.29 percentage points to the total added value growth of the entire economy; the forestry sector increased by 7.42% but accounted for a low proportion, so it only contributed 0.04 percentage points; the fishery sector increased by 4.21%, contributing 0.1 percentage points.
In the industrial and construction sector, the industry achieved high growth, the added value of the entire industry in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 8.07% over the same period last year, only lower than the increase of 8.89% in the same period of 2022 in the period 2020-2025, contributing 2.64 percentage points to the growth rate of total added value of the entire economy.
In the service sector, foreign trade, transportation, and tourism activities increased to meet regional and global consumption needs, contributing positively to economic growth. The added value of the service sector in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 8.14% over the same period last year, the highest increase compared to the same period in the period 2011-2025.
Some market service sectors with large contributions to the total added value growth of the whole economy are: Wholesale and retail increased by 7.03% over the same period last year, contributing 0.76 percentage points; transportation and warehousing increased by 9.82%, contributing 0.69 percentage points; finance, banking and insurance activities increased by 6.53%, contributing 0.38 percentage points; accommodation and catering services increased by 10.46%, contributing 0.29 percentage points.
Regarding the economic structure in the first 6 months of 2025, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounts for 11.28%; the industry and construction sector accounts for 36.96%; the service sector accounts for 43.40%; product taxes minus product subsidies account for 8.36% (the corresponding structure in the same period of 2024 is 11.49%; 37%; 42.98%; 8.53%).
Regarding GDP use in the first 6 months of 2025, final consumption increased by 7.95% over the same period in 2024, contributing 84.20% to the overall growth rate of the whole economy; asset accumulation increased by 7.98%; export of goods and services increased by 14.17%; import of goods and services increased by 16.01%.
