Malaysian enterprise proposes to study Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro and Ho Chi Minh City urban railway

Gamuda Land (Malaysia) proposed to Vietnamese authorities that it wants to study the construction of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh metro line and other urban railway lines in Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on July 7, Gamuda Land - a member company of Gamuda Berhad Group (Malaysia) - said that this enterprise has proposed to Vietnamese authorities to be allowed to research the metro line connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh and other urban railway lines of Ho Chi Minh City.

In particular, for the metro line connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh, Gamuda Land proposed a railway line named Thu Thiem - Long Thanh with a total length of 41.83km, and a 4.4km long access road.

Speed ​​120km/h, with stops at 20 stations, including 16 elevated stations and 4 underground stations.

The total investment capital of the project that Gamuda Land calculated is 3.4 billion USD.

Gamuda Land said that in mid-May 2025, at a working session with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Gamuda Land also expressed its desire to study and develop a metro line connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh International Airport.

In addition, the company is interested in other urban railway routes in Ho Chi Minh City to contribute to improving urban transport capacity and sustainable development.

In Malaysia, the Kajang MRT Line (inaugurated in 2017) is the first MRT project Gamuda participated in. Next, the Putrajaya MRT Line will also be inaugurated in 2023 with a length of 56.2km.

Gamuda Land said that in Singapore, the company has won two important bids for the Cross Island Line (CRL). In addition, the company also demonstrated its capacity with urban railway projects in Taiwan and Australia.

Gamuda's difference in the international market is its outstanding underground infrastructure construction capacity, having successfully developed the intelligent automatic tunnel boring machine A-TBM system, which is applied on many MRT lines.
