“Go far to come back”

For the past half month, the roads connecting Long Xuyen - Rach Gia have been bustling with private cars and official vehicles with license plate number 67. All have begun a new journey - a journey to create the future of An Giang.

In the last week of June, officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers of An Giang province (old) proactively went to Rach Gia, both to perform professional duties and to take the opportunity to see official houses and boarding houses, preparing for the upcoming work process. In addition to the main road (National Highway 80, Lo Te - Rach Soi Expressway), depending on the location, people choose to follow Provincial Road 943 - Provincial Road 961 (direction Thoai Son - Vinh Thong) or follow Tam Ngan canal to Hon Dat, Rach Gia.

The first time they go, they are still confused and unfamiliar with the roads and scenery. The second time, everything is a bit familiar. By the third or fourth time, they are familiar with the main roads and understand a bit about the place they are going to stay for a long time. Some people already know the specialty of Kien Giang fish noodle soup, the fresh seafood restaurants, the streets selling snacks, the "chill chill" coffee shops in the reclaimed sea area... The roads in Rach Gia ward are connected to each other like a chessboard, going around and around will get them to their destination, without fear of getting lost.

Of course, nothing is easy. Having been too familiar with the old workplace, the old unit, the old colleagues... the journey to change to a new workplace, a new unit, new colleagues is always full of emotions. Along with that, there is a lot of work to do: Clean up the belongings, public assets of the old unit, transport them to the new unit; take the time to clean, arrange, and set up the new workplace, accommodation...

During this time, the common question that officials and civil servants often ask each other is not "How are you doing?", but "Which agency are you working for now, have you been to Rach Gia yet?". Everyone shares information about the progress of arranging official housing; introduces affordable and convenient boarding houses; delicious and cheap restaurants... The questions contain sincere concern, not "asking for the sake of asking". Because, we must help each other overcome initial difficulties, "settling down" before we can consider "finding a career". In addition to the support from the mechanisms and policies of the new province; with the enthusiasm of the "local" officials and civil servants of Rach Gia, each official in Long Xuyen must "learn" and absorb a lot of knowledge, so that this place from a strange place becomes their second hometown.

Mr. Le Thanh Tien (Department of Mass Organizations and Associations, Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Provincial Party Committee) "entrusted" the responsibility of taking care of 2 children to his wife (who is working in the commune, about 100km from Rach Gia), and started to pack up and go to work far away, unable to return home every day like before. Due to the nature of his job, he not only works according to office hours, but is also busy with unexpected business trips. Leaving early and returning late, staying at the official residence will cause many inconveniences, so he and his colleagues at the same agency decided to rent a house. The price of more than 2 million VND/month, with a mezzanine, air conditioning... is relatively affordable. He travels by personal Honda, planning to return home every Wednesday and Friday afternoon. For now, all rental and travel expenses are self-funded, so he hopes to receive support from the province soon.

“After the initial confusion, I felt very happy when my new colleagues enthusiastically helped me prepare my office. The agency's leaders are rearranging the personnel of the specialized departments, we are ready to start working when assigned. Although we are busy with many things during the "transition" period, before, during and after the process of merging administrative units at all levels, we always promote the meaning and progress of the merger on digital platforms and social networks, helping cadres, party members and people understand the policy and agree to implement it together" - Mr. Tien shared.

We joked that we were starting over as fresh graduates: looking for a place to stay, getting to know the roads, approaching work and the area from zero. But the biggest advantage was the support from family to agency leaders, sharing the difficulties ahead, looking forward together. Each person rearranged their own life rhythm, even their personal mood, quickly accepting this change. We were not alone, because there were retired cadres who always actively followed our steps, encouraging us with many meaningful advices.

“My generation after 1975 witnessed great changes. Then came 1986 with many extraordinary changes. And now, many rapid changes, great hope... I hope that young people know how to choose the good things, stay away from “big cars that tilt and fall over”, wholeheartedly contribute to bringing the country to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world! The road ahead is wide open!” - Mr. Le Chi Thanh (former Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department) shared.

On June 30, General Secretary To Lam called on: “Governments at all levels, agencies, organizations, civil servants, public employees, and workers to strongly transform their thinking and actions, grasp development trends, innovate their thinking and working methods, improve their leadership and management capacity, promote the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility, and being ready to sacrifice personal interests to move towards a serving, modern, transparent, by-the-people, and for-the-people administration. Let each person be a soldier on the innovation front. Let the revolutionary spirit attack strongly, resolutely, and creatively, imbued with the national spirit in every action, every decision, and every step of development. Up to this point, our ranks are neat and tidy, and the whole nation is marching together towards the bright future of the country, for the happiness of the people, for a sustainably developed Vietnam.”

That “call” is being carried out by cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers in many ways, including “far yet near” work trips, overcoming obstacles of space and time… to continue the journey of building the homeland and the country. Going far away is to return, according to a new understanding in the new era!
