On August 2, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development sent a document to the Plant Protection Department requesting support and quarantine of durian in Dak Lak province for the 2023 crop year.

Dak Lak currently has 22,500 hectares of durian with an output of over 200,000 tons, harvested from the end of July to October every year. Up to now, durian in other provinces is almost out of harvest season, only durian in Dak Lak province is entering the harvest season. Therefore, organizing plant quarantine for durian exported from Dak Lak province is reasonable, at the same time will help strictly control the origin of shipments, prevent fraudulent use of growing area codes and packaging facility codes.

Durian gardens in Dak Lak are starting to enter the harvest season.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the Plant Protection Department to assign its subordinate units to act as focal points, assign staff, arrange specialized equipment to organize quarantine and carry out quarantine procedures locally for durian shipments from Dak Lak province in the 2023 crop year. As durian from Dak Lak province is about to start harvesting, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the Department to pay attention and coordinate with localities to complete procedures and preparations (people, equipment, facilities, etc.) before August 5, 2023.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will arrange an office for the working group of the Plant Protection Department during the quarantine mission in Dak Lak: office, accommodation, room for storing machinery and specialized equipment. Support and create the most favorable conditions for the Department's staff during the implementation of the mission...

Previously, at the meeting between the Plant Protection Department and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Durian Association of Dak Lak province (July 21, 2023), the Plant Protection Department agreed to assign staff and arrange specialized equipment to organize quarantine and carry out quarantine procedures locally for Dak Lak durian shipments. Regarding the establishment of a Plant Quarantine Station, it is necessary to form an organizational structure, so it has not been implemented yet. The Department will consider and report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development later.
