Since its founding in 1958, Monash has established itself as one of the world's leading universities, with its latest achievement being joint 36th place globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026, the highest result in the university's history.
In just the past year, Monash University has made significant strides in a number of key areas. The university officially opened its Monash University Alfred campus, which integrates biomedical research, advanced training and leading clinical services to improve the quality of health care. Monash is also at the forefront of pressing social issues, establishing the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Eliminating Violence Against Women – the first centre in the world with this specific mission. In parallel, the university has committed AU$60 million to develop MAVERIC – a next-generation artificial intelligence supercomputer to enhance Australia’s scientific research capacity.
In education and research, Monash launched the EMERGE @ Monash program to attract talented early and mid-career scientists, playing a key role in nurturing the next generation of academic leaders. The University is also leading the Artificial Heart Frontiers Program to develop next-generation devices to support all heart failure patients. In particular, Monash researchers have won $11.4 million in Laureate 2025 Scholarships for pioneering projects in artificial intelligence, support systems for workers with disabilities and carbon negative concrete technology – a significant step towards a sustainable future.
Professor Sharon Pickering, Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, said that Momentum Now demonstrates how Monash connects past, present and future to create the world we want: “ Momentum Now is a story of hope, a testament to the positive impact Monash has made throughout its history, and a strong commitment to the future. It offers inspiration and opportunity to make positive change. It is also a timely reminder that what we do today shapes our ability to heal, improve and reform tomorrow. It is a story of a proud community of transformativeeducation , research and collaboration that we all at Monash are a part of. And it is a story we invite everyone to join, to work towards a future we can all be proud of.”
Monash University’s Vice-Chancellor and Director of Marketing, Recruitment and Communications Fabian Marrone said Momentum Now is a strong foundation for Monash to continue writing the next chapters of its transformation journey: “ Momentum Now demonstrates how Monash is creating real transformation through research, education and strategic partnerships. Every moment is a step forward, because we have the power to drive change today.”
“This story not only reminds us of the original mission that gave birth to Monash, but also affirms our ambition to reach out, our footprint of impact and the power of the global grassroots network we are building. Above all, Momentum Now explains why Monash is always the choice of those who want to shape the future, because we don’t just talk about change, we make it,” he added.
