Ms. Xiomara Castro is scheduled to visit China from June 9-14.

Previously, on June 5, China officially inaugurated its embassy in the capital Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

In May, Honduras said the two sides would “soon” move forward with discussions on a bilateral trade agreement.

President Castro's government is also seeking agreements with China to gradually ease Honduras's public debt burden.

The above moves took place less than 3 months since Honduras ended official relations with Taiwan (China) and established diplomatic relations with China (March 26).

According to Reuters , the decision to cut ties with Taiwan came after the island rejected Honduras' request for a $2.5 billion loan to help resolve debt problems.

After Tegucigalpa-Beijing established formal relations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning denied attaching any preconditions to the move, such as economic assistance, stating that diplomatic relations “are not for trade.”
