On July 9, in Hoi An Dong Ward (Da Nang City), the Da Nang City Provisional Tourism Association in collaboration with the Pacific Environment Organization Vietnam (PE-VN) held a workshop to launch the Vietnam Zero Waste Tourism Network, attracting the participation of about 100 businesses in the city.
According to information at the workshop, from 2019 to present, with the support of local authorities and non-governmental organizations, the Quang Nam Tourism Association (formerly) has conducted many activities of surveying, training, visiting, and sharing practical experiences in reducing plastic waste in the local tourism business community. Through many meaningful and practical activities, 33 businesses and tourist attractions have effectively approached zero-waste tourism methods and achieved green tourism certification.

The goal of the Vietnam Zero Waste Tourism Network is to incubate at least 100 pioneering business nuclei practicing effective waste resource management nationwide by 2030. According to the orientation, members of the Vietnam Zero Waste Tourism Network will also be pioneering businesses to achieve the goal of zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, becoming reliable partners providing sustainable tourism products/services in Vietnam.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Cao Tri Dung - Chairman of the Interim Tourism Association of Da Nang City emphasized that the trend of developing green tourism, community-based tourism, zero-waste tourism is not only the content and activity that has long been prominent in Hoi An but also the common concern of Da Nang, of Vietnam, of the community. This is a trend that many businesses and travel companies grasp and aim for.
"We always support, accompany, and create the best conditions for businesses and travel companies to develop sustainably. In the near future, the Association will upgrade the Quang Nam Green Tourism Club (old) to the Da Nang City Green Tourism Association. This is the core force to implement many meaningful activities and solutions towards the goal of reducing waste, gradually moving towards the goal of zero waste. Da Nang has an area of 11,000 km 2 , is the largest centrally-governed city among the 6 cities. Our tourism industry has many favorable conditions for development, especially developing green tourism, sustainable tourism, and reducing waste" - Mr. Dung emphasized.

The workshop is an event that contributes to promoting effective waste management at the enterprise and destination levels, towards the goal of sustainable tourism development; an opportunity for the business community with the same concern for environmental issues to share difficulties and experiences in managing and minimizing waste at the facility. This is also an opportunity for local partners to provide technical solutions for the treatment of organic waste, low-value plastic waste, environmentally friendly alternative products, reuse models... and at the same time introduce waste reduction solutions to the community and tourism businesses for the goal of sustainable development.
