On the afternoon of July 14, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Delegation Unit No. 1 had a meeting with voters of 4 wards: Tam Binh, Hiep Binh, Linh Xuan, Thu Duc before the 2nd session of the 10th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, term 2021-2026.

The delegation of delegates attending included comrades: Huynh Thanh Nhan, Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City; Nguyen Tran Phuong Tran, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Ho Chi Minh City; Nguyen Thi Minh Hong, Head of the Party Building Committee of Thu Duc Ward.

At the meeting, voters reflected on many social issues such as environmental sanitation, waste, degraded roads, food safety issues, etc. Notably, many opinions focused on the process of operating the 2-level local government model after the administrative unit arrangement.

Voter Luu Van Men (Ward 50) expressed his agreement with the merger of wards under the 2-level local government model, saying that this is the right policy for the common development. However, he suggested that authorities at all levels should pay more attention to the interests of the people, especially in providing timely guidance and information on changes to personal documents after the arrangement. "This work must create the most favorable conditions for the people," said Mr. Men.

Voter Nguyen Duy Hung (Ward 30, Linh Xuan Ward) also said that the policy of rearranging administrative units has helped streamline the apparatus and improve management efficiency. However, he recommended that the government should promptly handle the situation of duplicate street names after the rearrangement.

“Many roads with similar names now coexist in the same ward, causing many difficulties and inconveniences for residents and businesses. The government needs to review and adjust the road names appropriately as well as update them on the Google Maps system to avoid confusion,” said Mr. Hung.

In addition, voter Nguyen Van Binh (Ward 40, Linh Xuan Ward) expressed concern about the widespread availability of counterfeit goods, affecting people's lives. He also suggested that more timely and effective solutions be needed to prevent fraud on the internet. Representatives of the leaders of the four wards said that they would take full note and respond to voters soon.

Regarding the opinions of voters raised at the meeting, comrade Huynh Thanh Nhan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, on behalf of the delegation, requested the Tam Binh Ward Fatherland Front Committee to preside over and fully synthesize them. On that basis, the delegation will report to the Standing Committee of the People's Council for a general synthesis, so that departments, branches and localities can respond to the people.

Regarding solutions to serve people after the arrangement of provincial and commune-level administrative units, comrade Huynh Thanh Nhan informed that the City People's Committee is urgently directing the construction of 38 public administrative service centers to handle administrative procedures for people and businesses in the city in the direction of no administrative boundaries.

Regarding the conversion of personal documents, the delegation proposed that in resolving the conversion of people's documents, state agencies must be responsible for the conversion and should do it free of charge, similar to the previous establishment of Thu Duc City.

Voters express their opinions at the meeting

In response to voters' feedback on inadequacies in street names and neighborhood names after the arrangement, comrade Huynh Thanh Nhan said that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council meeting at the end of July will have content on duplicate street names in the area.

“The Department of Culture and Sports has submitted a project to name and rename streets and constructions, but it has not been approved by the People's Council because it requires a review of all streets in Ho Chi Minh City. This will take time and the People's Committee has assigned the Department of Culture and Sports to preside over and coordinate with the wards to implement it,” said Mr. Huynh Thanh Nhan.

Old place names will be included in the fund of street and building names.

Comrade Huynh Thanh Nhan also responded to voters' opinions about the possibility of losing some place names after the rearrangement. At the meeting before the rearrangement of provincial and commune-level administrative units, the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City requested the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to direct departments and branches to review, the names of heroic martyrs will be given to works, public works and roads, while the names of existing places will be preserved and used appropriately.

He also affirmed that the City People's Council has requested the City People's Committee to direct the Department of Culture and Sports and localities to review and include old place names and names in the list of street names and construction names in the upcoming arrangement plan, so that no place name is lost.
