"There is an era of growth, there must be education for growth"

(Dan Tri) - "To have an era of growth, there must be education for growth. There cannot be an era of growth if education is "incubating" or "sluggish".

This was emphasized byeducator Gian Tu Trung, Director of the IRED Institute of Education, when sharing about the core mission of education.

Education is not to meet social needs but to create society.

Dr. Gian Tu Trung said that the country entered the era of self-improvement, from July 1st, which was a major turning point in Vietnam's history, a burning desire to self-improvement that has been contained in many generations.

This requires us to answer the question: “What education for the rising era?”

Mr. Amid the event on May 17, at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Government Party Committee, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh mentioned the drafting of the Politburo Resolution on "Modernization, breakthrough in education and training development".

This educator believes that the Resolution will shape education in the era of growth. Because when there is an era of growth, there must be education for growth. There cannot be an era of growth if education is “incubated” or “sluggish”.

"Vietnam's education has made a lot of progress in the past, but it is not education to accompany the aspiration to rise up. Education is not to follow the needs, or to meet the needs of society, but education is to create and shape society," said Mr. Gian Tu Trung.

Besides the era of national development, Mr. Trung also mentioned the AI era of humanity. These are educational problems that must be solved.

If the aspiration to rise up shapes the future of Vietnam, then AGI (artificial super intelligence) will shape the future of humanity, including education. In that future, teachers will be very different, students will be very different, human learning will be extremely different.

According to Mr. Gian Tu Trung, AI is becoming more and more like humans, more and more surpassing humans, but in the end, AI is still not human. To make humans different from AI, what education needs to do is… educate people to be human.

Facing a future where every profession can be "unemployed", from doctors, teachers, painters, architects..., Mr. Gian Tu Trung believes that what people need most is the ability to solve problems. Each person must learn how to solve personal problems, life, work, organizations and even national scale...

That is also a profession that lasts forever, forcing everyone to learn if they don't want to be eliminated.

All must rethink education

Educator Kiran Bir Sethi, founder of the global movement Design for Change ( the world's largest children's movement), shares that the mission of education is not to produce students with good grades. The mission of education must be to nurture citizens who are capable of taking action for a better world.

Each educational subject plays a role in "educational growth" (Photo: Hoai Nam).

Children need adults to stop, listen and believe in them. Education must begin with the belief that children can do it. Empowering learners is the key to opening the door to future education. A child can only truly reveal his or her abilities and be proactive and creative when he or she is trusted.

Agreeing with this point of view, Mr. Gian Tu Trung said that the nature of education does not stop at loving children and loving people. Educating does not necessarily mean believing in people, but the nature of education is to believe in human development and change.

The essence of education is human development. The role of a teacher is to help others learn; teaching is to make learning happen. Learning should not stop at equipping knowledge for exams.

The essence of teaching is to empower learners on the journey of self-reliance to become free people, responsible citizens, aiming at “living with value” as the destination. At that time, learners not only accumulate knowledge, but also become people with inner strength, know how to self-study, self-determine and know how to live for the community.

Regarding the role of the family, Mr. Gian Tu Trung noted that parents need to raise their children as "human beings" more important than "their own children" so that our children have the opportunity to become human beings.

When parents only see "their children" and forget about "human beings", they will turn their children into assets, into jewelry, into tools to do what they want... which is extremely dangerous.

According to Mr. Gian Tu Trung, there has never been an era where enlightenment was as easy as it is now, but enlightenment of the heart as difficult as it is now. The biggest story of this era is enlightenment of the heart, not enlightenment of the mind.

Parents must be what they teach their children, teachers must be what they teach their students. The way parents live and conduct themselves is the greatest lesson for their children. That is personal education - education through oneself, through one's own person.

Faced with the demands of the times and the era of national growth, Mr. Gian Tu Trung said that we must rethink education, rethink the roles of the five subjects in education including the state, school, teacher, family and student.

In which, the state is only one of the five educational entities. Educational reform is not only the state that has to look back and change while the others are innocent.

All "houses" must rethink their roles; no one can stand outside the educational reform.
