HAPPY TO HAVE A SECOND MOTHER
The “Godmother” program not only helps orphans materially, but also lights up the faith in their hearts. The program has demonstrated the power of love and solidarity, bringing hope to orphans and their families. Therefore, the presence of “Godmothers” with their care and sharing in life has helped orphans feel love, thereby easing some of the pain, overcoming difficulties to gradually rise up.
"Using many different methods and approaches, cadres, members, and women at all levels have done meaningful, practical, creative, and effective work to help children in especially difficult circumstances. In addition to calling for and supporting funding and giving gifts on holidays and Tet, members and women also directly visit, care for, and instruct children in life skills." VICE CHAIRMAN OF PROVINCIAL WOMEN'S UNION NGUYEN THI KIEU TIEN |
Understanding the special situation of Phan Thao Vy (in Bac B hamlet, Diem Hy commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province) who lost her mother due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she still has an older sister and a younger sister. After her mother passed away, her father also left his children to be taken care of by her grandparents. It is known that Thao Vy's grandparents are poor households, have no land for production and her grandfather just passed away in May 2025.
Out of her love for Thao Vy, Ms. Do Thi Tuyet, currently the President of the Women's Union of Diem Hy commune, has become a second mother - "Godmother" to Thao Vy, sharing her difficulties, joys and sorrows and encouraging her to overcome adversity. Up to now, Ms. Tuyet has mobilized benefactors to give Thao Vy 20 kg of rice every quarter, cash ranging from 500,000 - 1,500,000 VND/quarter, a bicycle, necessities and school supplies, with a total value of over 21.5 million VND. In particular, she also connected and introduced Thao Vy's situation to the program "Standing side by side with Vietnamese families" - Ho Chi Minh City Television Station, giving her a warm house worth 166 million VND.
Sharing about her second mother, Thao Vy said: "I feel very lucky to have mother Tuyet to support and take care of me. She not only supports me materially, but also regularly encourages me mentally. I will try to study well and not be discouraged or give up in the face of difficult circumstances."
Since the “Godmother” came to visit, take care of and provide financial support, the life of Le Gia Bao (in Quarter 3, Ward 2, Cai Lay Town, Tien Giang Province) has become more stable and Gia Bao has gradually become more confident, happy, and integrated with friends of the same age; especially knowing how to share and confide in the “Godmother” whenever he encounters difficulties or changes in his daily life. And that godmother is Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem Trinh, currently the President of the Women's Union of Ward 2.
Ms. Diem Trinh said that through research and knowing Gia Bao's situation, she encountered many difficulties, the family had no land to cultivate, his father was a bricklayer and the biggest loss for Gia Bao was that his mother passed away in 2023 due to cancer. Gia Bao had to stay at his uncle's house to go to school.
And Ms. Diem Trinh has accompanied Gia Bao throughout the past time, each quarter, Ms. Trinh supports 500,000 VND and other necessities. Although the support is not much, but above all is love, the desire to give the best things to Gia Bao. In response to Ms. Diem Trinh's feelings, Gia Bao has tried to study hard, becoming a good student in the class. Gia Bao emotionally confided: "So I have a mother now. I promise to try to study hard to not let down my mother, the benefactors who have always cared for and helped me and my friends in the same situation as me."
The “Godmother” program has been creating a positive ripple effect to organizations, individuals, philanthropists, companies, and businesses in the area, thereby multiplying the sharing and love in community life. With very practical encouragement both materially and spiritually, it has helped children have more warmth and stability on the path of learning, towards future life.
