Industrial production index in the first 6 months increased the highest in the same period since 2020

In the first 6 months of 2025, the industrial production index (IIP) is estimated to increase by 9.2% over the same period last year, the highest increase since 2020.

According to the General Statistics Office, industrial production in the second quarter of 2025 continued to grow positively. The IIP index increased by 10.3% over the same period last year, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 12.3%.

In the first 6 months of 2025, the industrial production index is estimated to increase by 9.2% over the same period last year, the highest increase since 2020. The IIP index in the first 6 months of 2020-2025 compared to the same period last year increased by: 2.8%; 9%; 8.4%; -1.4%; 8%; 9.2%, respectively.

Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 11.1% (increased by 8.9% in the same period in 2024), contributing 9.1 percentage points to the overall growth; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 4.5% (increased by 12.8% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.4 percentage points; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 11.3% (increased by 6.4% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.2 percentage points.

The mining industry alone decreased by 3% (same period in 2024 decreased by 6%), reducing the overall growth rate by 0.5 percentage points.

The production index in the first 6 months of 2025 of some key secondary industries increased compared to the same period last year, such as: Production of motor vehicles increased by 31.5%; production of leather and related products increased by 17.1%; production of rubber and plastic products increased by 17%; production of garments increased by 15.1%; production of other means of transport increased by 14.1%; production of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 13.7%; production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 11.8%; production of beds, cabinets, tables, and chairs increased by 11.7%...

On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries increased slightly or decreased: Beverage production increased by 1.9%; electrical equipment production increased by 1.1%; crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 8.2%.

The industrial production index in the first 6 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in 62 localities, except for the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, which decreased by 2.6%.

The consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in June 2025 increased by 0.6% over the previous month and increased by 10.1% over the same period last year.

In the first 6 months of 2025, the consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.8% over the same period in 2024 (in the same period in 2024, it increased by 10.8%).

The inventory index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry is estimated to increase by 6.7% as of June 30, 2025 compared to the same period last month and increase by 12% as compared to the same period last year (the same period last year increased by 9.6%).

The average inventory ratio of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in the first 6 months of 2025 is 85.7% (the average for the same period in 2024 is 76.9%).

The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of June 1, 2025 increased by 1.2% compared to the same period last month and increased by 4.7% compared to the same period last year.

Of which, labor in state-owned enterprises increased by 0.2% and decreased by 0.1%; non-state enterprises increased by 0.7% and increased by 3.1%; foreign-invested enterprises increased by 1.6% and increased by 5.8%.
