Before the match, no one dared to believe in this result. Some people were even so pessimistic that they thought the whole team would return empty-handed with a 0-3 loss. The reason came from the fact that the Vietnamese team lost 0-3 to the Philippines - a team much weaker than Thailand.
But then an unexpected result happened. The commendable thing about this match was the good spirit of the whole team, because they lost the first set with a regrettable score of 29-31. The athletes did not collapse but continued to play with excitement to win all 3 remaining sets.
It seems that the loss to the Philippines on the opening day is like a fever that comes to a healthy person's body. At that time, the immune system is activated to fight the pathogen. The patient also has to resort to measures such as going to the doctor and taking medicine to completely treat it.
Against the Philippines, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team showed too many mistakes from the first step, the second pass, blocking, to serving. Fortunately, coach Tran Dinh Tien and his students quickly found a "remedy" to treat these "symptoms".
Thanks to that, they played a jubilant and fair match against Thailand. The errors were fixed, opening up a surprising but worthy victory for the Vietnamese team. The team's tactics also had many significant changes.
Ngoc Thuan was still the main scorer, but he was significantly relieved by the excellence of Quan Trong Nghia and Pham Quoc Du. The Thai defense was completely surprised to see the faces who played poorly in previous matches shine when facing them.
And physical strength is also a clear strength of the Vietnamese athletes in this match. Coach Tran Dinh Tien made very few changes compared to the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Thailand had to withdraw many key players in set 3 because of fatigue.
A win cannot say much about the strength and chances of Vietnam winning the SEA V.League. But anyway, the whole team deserves praise. Instead of continuing to go into a dead end, they learned important lessons, corrected their mistakes in time, showing careful preparation for this match.
The only remaining match of the Vietnamese team in the first round of SEA V.League 2025 is against Indonesia (2 p.m., July 12). This is still a stronger opponent and has defeated coach Tran Dinh Tien's team at the AVC Nations Cup not long ago.
In reality, another surprise victory is not easy. But fans can still believe in a match with high spirits and excellent plays from the team's boys.
