Within the framework of events at the National Achievement Exhibition “80 years of Independence-Freedom-Happiness journey”, on the morning of August 29, at the National Exhibition Fair Center (Dong Anh, Hanoi), the Ministry of Science and Technology hosted the Forum “Future of science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation”.
This is one of the key events towards the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025); part of the series of activities of the Exhibition of achievements in science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation.
The forum is a place to shape the thinking of developing the science and technology sector in the coming time, while affirming the role of the three pillars: science and technology, innovation and digital transformation in creating momentum for rapid and sustainable development, enhancing competitiveness, towards the goal of making Vietnam a developed country with high income.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung said that over the past 80 years, science and technology have accompanied the nation in overcoming wars, building the country, and gradually bringing Vietnam into integration and development. Today, we are entering a new era, the era of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, green energy and digital economy . This is the era where knowledge, creativity and technology are the most important production resources.
The Party and the State have identified science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as the central, key and breakthrough driving force for rapid and sustainable development. Our first innovation was the 1986 Innovation, opening the era of integration and development of a socialist-oriented market economy. The second innovation is innovation and digital transformation, building a new ecosystem where businesses, scientists, people and the State participate in creating value. The first innovation was to escape poverty, the second innovation was to escape the middle-income trap and become a high-income developed country. The first innovation took agriculture, industry, processing and assembly as the driving force, while the second innovation takes science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as the central driving force for development.
According to the Minister, today's Forum will be an opportunity for us to commit to mastering strategic technologies; building a national innovation system linked to the needs of businesses and society; accelerating comprehensive and all-people digital transformation. And especially, turning science, technology, innovation and digital transformation into strength for Vietnam to rise up, contributing to realizing the aspiration of developing a prosperous and happy country.
At the forum, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh announced the Central Report of the Forum with the theme: "Science, technology, innovation, digital transformation - Central and breakthrough driving force for Vietnam's rapid, sustainable and self-reliant development".
Accordingly, the report is built on the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, emphasizing the trio of Science and Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation as decisive factors to help Vietnam rise up, narrow the gap with developed countries, and achieve national strategic goals.
The report focuses on analyzing 3 core pillars, 2 key goals and 1 great aspiration, in order to provide a theoretical and practical basis for the discussions at today's Forum. These are 3 pillars: Science and Technology - Innovation - Digital Transformation; 2 goals: Rapid and sustainable growth, improving competitiveness; 1 aspiration: Vietnam becomes a developed country with high income.
The forum is an opportunity to shape the thinking of developing the science and technology sector in the coming time. At the same time, it affirms the role of the three pillars of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation in creating momentum for rapid and sustainable development. The forum is organized with four in-depth working sessions:
Session 1: Focus on discussing the future of science and technology, with a focus on fundamental technologies and strategic technologies.
Session 2: Delving into solutions to promote innovation and build a national creative startup ecosystem.
Session 3: Discussion on digital transformation, especially digital infrastructure and digital society. With presentations on: The future of national digital infrastructure; application of digital transformation in state administration, healthcare, education, finance, agriculture; connecting digital transformation with innovation to promote double-digit GDP growth.
Session 4: In-depth discussion around four topics: Developing human resources for the future of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation; perfecting mechanisms, policies and laws on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation; enhancing international cooperation; and promoting the leading role of technology enterprises.
The presentations and discussions at the forum will focus on the following major issues: What should Vietnam do to grasp and develop strategic technologies? How to build an internationally integrated innovation ecosystem? How to develop digital infrastructure and ensure national digital sovereignty? And what are the solutions for Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the global value chain?
The forum is not only an opportunity for the science, technology, innovation community and technology enterprises at home and abroad to share visions and connect resources, but also an event to affirm the determination to make science, technology, innovation and digital transformation become the central driving force for Vietnam's rapid and sustainable development in the new period.
