Rick Beato, a YouTuber with more than 5 million followers, discovered that his face and skin had been edited abnormally. Guitarist Rhett Shull also complained about the overly-sharpened face, which looked fake, and immediately warned on his own channel.
On Reddit, users reported seeing unusually smooth skin and distorted details since June of this year. In response, YouTube asserted that it only uses “traditional machine learning,” not generative AI or upscaling technology. However, experts say this explanation only downplays the nature of AI interference in content.
