Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, shared this information at the workshop on Improving the quality of training and recruiting high-quality human resources , on July 3.

"The second facility in Ninh Binh will open in December 2025 and is oriented to become a modern medical center with a synchronous and advanced equipment system," said Mr. Co. Of the total 1,200 personnel needed, the hospital plans to have 300 doctors.

To ensure uniform professional quality, the hospital plans to rotate staff from senior leaders to heads of departments, institutes, and clinical centers between the two facilities. Over the past year, the hospital has also recruited more than 100 highly qualified doctors and is training them domestically and internationally.

According to Mr. Co, the staff of the second facility is "carefully selected, focusing on resident doctors from medical universities nationwide". For nurses, the hospital actively trains at Bach Mai College. Currently, 300 nurses have graduated and are continuing to study specialized courses for 6-9 months. When the second facility is put into operation, leading experts and a team of high-quality human resources will directly examine and treat patients.

At the same time, the hospital plans to purchase the world's leading modern equipment such as Robotic surgery system, Proton computed tomography machine, Hybrid operating room system and many other advanced equipment for the facility in Ninh Binh.

Mr. Co assessed that putting the second facility into operation would not only reduce the load on the first facility but also bring great benefits to the people in the neighboring area. Currently, the facility in Hanoi has 3,600 planned beds but always has to receive 4,000-4,500 inpatients and 7,000-8,000 outpatients every day. The second facility can examine 5,000-7,000 patients every day without being overloaded.

"People do not need to travel to the center of Hanoi but can still access high-quality medical services at facility 2, helping to reduce traffic congestion and increase access to health care," Mr. Co emphasized.

In early June, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh requested the development of a plan to rotate highly qualified doctors and medical staff between facilities 1 and 2 of Bach Mai and Viet Duc Hospitals. To ensure the quality of service "facility two is equivalent to facility one", units need to proactively recruit and train medical staff, prioritizing local and neighboring human resources, the Deputy Prime Minister requested.

The two hospitals were assigned to coordinate with the Project Management Board to prepare for the procurement of medical equipment and increase human resources. The Deputy Prime Minister agreed to use all allocated funds for equipment procurement and speed up bidding to select the best and most modern equipment.

The Bach Mai Hospital 2 and Viet Duc Hospital 2 projects started in 2014, each with 1,000 beds to reduce the load on two central hospitals in Hanoi. Bach Mai Hospital partially operated the 2nd facility in 2019 but had to temporarily stop in March 2020. According to Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan, the reason is that the investor and contractor have not fully anticipated the difficulties in implementing the project under the EPC method, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and problems in adjusting the contract price, making it impossible for the investor to pay the contractor.
