On the afternoon of July 4, AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul said: "No information related to suspicions about naturalized Malaysian players have been sent to AFC in recent days."

"Issues regarding player status and qualifications are under the jurisdiction of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The AFC itself has not received any warnings or concerns from FIFA regarding the 4-0 win of the Malaysian team over the Vietnamese team," AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul added.

The above statement of the General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation indirectly confirmed that the AFC will not change the result of the match between Malaysia and the Vietnamese team on June 10, within the framework of the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

Immediately, Malaysia's leading English-language daily New Straits Times wrote: "The AFC has quashed all speculation about investigations into the Malaysian team, related to allegations of using naturalized players. These alleged claims that naturalized Malaysian players are not eligible to participate in the match against the Vietnamese team on June 10."

"The AFC categorically states that it has not received any complaints, or any requests to address any complaints, from FIFA in relation to the above matters. AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul has made a brief but clear statement to that effect," the New Straits Times added.

In addition to reporting on the AFC official's statement, the New Straits Times reported the views of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) official on the issue of naturalizing Malaysian players.

“FAM has categorically denied any misconduct regarding the naturalization of players. FAM Secretary General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman stressed that the Football Association of Malaysia has complied with all international regulations,” Malaysia's leading English-language daily shared.

“Naturalized players Facundo Garces, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Rodrigo Hidalgo and Jon Irazabal played important roles in Malaysia's 4-0 win over Vietnam.

Following that victory, the aforementioned naturalized players were closely watched by a number of regional media outlets, with some of these newspapers constantly talking about the origins of the naturalized Malaysian players. Despite the speculation, FAM affirmed that all players fully met the conditions for Malaysian citizenship,” the New Straits Times emphasized.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Football website, which specializes in Southeast Asian football, reported early: "So far, there have been no official sanctions from FIFA and AFC, related to allegations that naturalized Malaysian players violated the conditions and rules of naturalization."

“All the information that has appeared recently is just rumors and speculations, not information provided by reputable organizations, not official information,” is still written on the ASEAN Football page.
