Notably, by starting in this match, 16-year-old Mexican talent Gilberto Mora made world football history.
The young midfielder from Tijuana has become the youngest player ever to play and win a final match of a FIFA-sanctioned international tournament for his national team.
According to official confirmation from FIFA, Mora achieved this title at the age of 16 years and 265 days, surpassing the record of Lamine Yamal (winning EURO 2024 at 17 years and 1 day) and "King of Football" Pelé (winning World Cup 1958 at 17 years and 249 days).
Mora was born in 2008 (1 year younger than Yamal). He plays for Tijuana Club in the Mexican championship. Despite his young age, this player quickly made an impression thanks to his sharp tactical thinking, maturity in playing style and outstanding adaptability.
In the 2024 Apertura season, Mora officially debuted in the Tijuana first team under coach Juan Carlos Osorio at the age of 15, one of the youngest players ever to play in the Mexican national championship.

Consistent form in the Mexican league and outstanding performances at world youth tournaments helped Mora catch the eye of head coach Javier Aguirre. In January 2025, he was called up to the national team, becoming the youngest player ever to play for the Mexican national team.
At the 2025 Gold Cup, Mora did not play in the group stage but was brought on in the quarter-finals against Saudi Arabia. That made him the youngest player ever to play in the tournament's history. The player wearing the number 7 shirt then continued to keep his place in the starting lineup in the semi-finals and final.
In the semi-final against Honduras, Mora assisted Raul Jiménez to score the only goal of the match. In the deciding match for the championship against the United States, Mora continued to start and contributed to the 2–1 victory with goals from Jiménez and Edson Alvarez.
Speaking after the championship, coach Javier Aguirre praised Mora: "He is very calm, knows where he is and what he is doing. A 16-year-old player has made his debut for the national team and is not overwhelmed. I believe Gilberto can go even further if he continues to maintain his current form and attitude."
