Alibaba Launches AI Service Platform to Compete with Microsoft and Amazon

VietNamNetVietNamNet01/11/2023

The latest version, called Tongyi Qianwen 2.0, is described by Alibaba as a “significant upgrade over its predecessor” and was introduced in April 2023.

Tongyi Qianwen 2.0 “demonstrates superior abilities in understanding complex instructions, writing copy, reasoning, memorizing, and preventing illusions,” according to a press release from the Chinese tech and e-commerce giant. Illusions in AI refer to the phenomenon of systems “fabricating” inaccurate information.

Alibaba is the largest cloud computing company by market share in China, and it is trying to catch up with Amazon and Microsoft abroad.

Alibaba also released AI models designed for applications in specific industries and uses, such as legal and financial advice, as it targets enterprise clients.

The Hangzhou-based company also announced the GenAI “Service Platform,” which allows companies to build generative AI applications using private data sources. This is seen as a solution to concerns about data from publicly innovative AI products being accessible to third parties.

Tongyi Qianwen version 1.0 was launched in April 2023, with Chinese and English language capabilities, deployed on DingTalk, Alibaba's enterprise communication software, and Tmall Genie.

At the Alibaba Cloud Summit 2023, the company said it will deploy artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbots into all Alibaba products from corporate communications to e-commerce in the “near future.”

“We are at a technological turning point driven by AI and hybrid cloud computing, and businesses across all industries have begun to adopt intelligent transformation to stay ahead of the game,” said Daniel Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group and CEO of Alibaba Cloud.
